The legend of Nghè Vẹt and its connection to the Trịnh dynasty:
Legend has it that during the reign of Trinh Kiem, his mother was murdered by the Mac army and thrown into the river. Strangely, wherever her body drifted, a large flock of parrots would fly to cover it like a cloud. Villagers witnessing this strange event retrieved the body and reburied it. The burial site later rose up as a mound in the middle of the river, considered a "heavenly burial." The parrots continued to circle the area for a long time before finally flying away.
To commemorate his mother and acknowledge this auspicious omen, Trinh Kiem had a shrine built here and named it Parrot Shrine. From then on, the parrot became a sacred symbol of the Trinh family.
Nghè Vẹt and the 12 Trinh Lords:
The Parrot Shrine is not only a place of worship for the mother of Trinh Kiem but also for the 12 generations of Trinh lords. According to the elderly people in the area, in the past, the shrine also contained 12 statues and 12 large wooden parrots, symbolizing the 12 lords.
