This is one of a series of activities in response to the Month of Action for the Environment, World Environment Day (June 5), World Ocean Day (June 8) and Vietnam's Sea and Islands Week 2026.

The program was attended by the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve; the People's Committee of Tan Hiep commune; the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tan Hiep commune; the Department of Economy and Social Affairs; the Farmers' Association of Tan Hiep commune; and representatives of community groups and fishing households in the commune.
Through this activity, fishermen in Tan Hiep commune are committed to enhancing their responsibility in protecting the marine environment; refraining from dumping waste into the sea; proactively collecting and storing waste generated during fishing operations on their boats and bringing it ashore for proper disposal.
These are specific and practical commitments that contribute to reducing ocean plastic waste, protecting marine resources, landscapes, and ecosystems in the Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve.

As part of the program, the Tan Hiep Commune Farmers' Association launched community groups for collecting marine waste in three villages: Bai Lang, Bai Ong, and Bai Huong. The establishment of these community groups aims to promote self-governance and responsibility among fishermen in disseminating information, reminding others, and maintaining marine waste collection activities, linking these efforts to each fishing trip and each group of fishermen in the locality.
On this occasion, the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve and the Farmers' Association of Tan Hiep commune presented tools to support the collection of marine waste to fishermen. The activity aims to facilitate fishermen in collecting and storing waste on their boats and bringing it ashore; and to encourage each fishing vessel to become a waste collection point during its operations at sea.

The campaign "Tourists and fishermen bring waste ashore" is a continuation of environmental protection programs that Cu Lao Cham has implemented for many years, such as "Say no to plastic bags," "Say no to plastic straws," reducing single-use plastic products, and sorting waste at source.
Through specific activities, the campaign aims to translate environmental protection awareness into concrete actions in fisheries and tourism activities.
The campaign contributes to fostering responsible behavior towards the sea and islands, not only among fishermen but also among tourists visiting Cu Lao Cham.
Fishermen refraining from littering during fishing operations, proactively collecting waste on their boats and bringing it ashore; and tourists limiting the use of single-use plastics, refraining from littering, and bringing waste generated during their trips to designated collection points will contribute to protecting the landscape, marine ecosystem, and sustainable livelihoods of the local community.

In June 2026, the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve continued to coordinate with the Tan Hiep Commune Farmers' Association to implement activities in response to the 2026 Environmental Action Month, including: guiding businesses to participate in the campaign; cleaning beaches and coral reef areas; and conducting communication and signing commitments with travel companies at Cua Dai Tourist Wharf.
The activities aim to spread the message of reducing single-use plastics, not littering, and bringing waste generated during fishing trips and fishing activities back to shore.
