A Hong Kong (China) parent has faced backlash after he destroyed his son's Mickey Mouse teddy bear, claiming it was punishment for doing sloppy homework.
According to SCMP , in a social media post, the parent said that one evening, he returned home and asked his son to write down the English words he had learned that day. However, his son (who is in primary school) could only write a few words, very sloppily and with very bad handwriting.
The boy told his father that "I can't write or remember words". So the father was very angry and destroyed his son's Mickey Mouse teddy bear. He also took a picture of the teddy bear before and after, then stuck it on his son's door as a reminder.
According to this parent, his son had previously made a similar mistake. The father warned that if he did it again, he would cut up the teddy bear that his son loved and always carried with him.
“I love and pamper my child very much, but I am also very strict with his studies,” the single father shared.

After going viral on social media, this father received a lot of criticism, saying that he had created childhood trauma for the child. Many people were horrified by the father's actions.
“This is terrible! This will traumatize the child for the rest of his life,” one person said.
“When I was a kid, my mother threw away my favorite doll in a fit of rage. I still remember it to this day. It’s unforgivable to destroy your son’s teddy bear,” another commented.
After receiving mixed reactions, the father tried to defend himself by saying that he just wanted his son to do well in school. However, the wave of anger from the online community did not subside.
“Your son has just started school. Do you expect him to manage his time and discipline himself? If the child is lazy, I think it is the parents' responsibility. As a father, you have to manage your emotions and grow up with your child," one user analyzed.
