According to GameRant , Nintendo has confirmed that it will release a "Switch 2 Edition" series of games for the original Switch, bringing many upgrades in performance and content. However, information about how these upgrades will be distributed, especially with physical copies, is causing a lot of controversy in the user community.

Information on the boxes of two Switch 2 Edition titles announced by Nintendo, along with vague notes about how upgraded content will be distributed, has raised many questions in the community.

During the most recent Nintendo Direct event, the company announced that games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Tears of the Kingdom , Super Mario Party Jamboree , Kirby and the Forgotten Land , Metroid Prime 4: Beyond , and Pokemon Legends: ZA would be getting Switch 2-specific upgrades. These upgrades are expected to improve visuals, performance, and add some new game modes. For example, the upgraded versions of Super Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land will add an expanded game mode that's only available on the Switch 2.

However, the actual content on the physical cartridge of the "Switch 2 Edition" series is confusing. The box cover notes that the product includes "a Nintendo Switch game and a Switch 2 Edition upgrade package." This has led many players to speculate that the cartridge only contains the original version for the Switch 1, while the Switch 2 upgrade must be downloaded using a redemption code.

Adding to the confusion is the inconsistent information Nintendo’s customer service has provided. Some users say they’ve been told the upgrade will only be available as a download code. However, other responses say all content, including the upgrade, will be available directly on the Switch 2 Edition cartridge.

The list of games that have been given release dates includes Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (June 5), Super Mario Party Jamboree (July 24), and Kirby and the Forgotten Land (August 28). Meanwhile, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released in 2025. The suggested retail price for the Switch 2 Edition is $69.99. However, those who already own the Switch 1 version will need to pay an additional $9.99 to get the upgrade for the Zelda titles. Notably, users who subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will get access to these upgrades for free.

Nintendo has yet to make a final announcement on whether all the content will be included on the cartridge, and many users are still waiting for more clarity when the Switch 2 console officially launches on June 5.
