Preserving core values, professional ideals, and a pure, humane professional ethics.

"I highly appreciate this year's award-winning works, which continue to affirm the revolutionary nature, scientific nature, acumen, creativity, noble professional ideals and tireless dedication of journalists. The journalistic works have been seriously and elaborately invested in, with many creative, vivid and attractive ways of expression for the public, clearly demonstrating the capacity for digital transformation and journalistic innovation. Many journalistic works are discovery-based, highly combative, sharp, scientifically critical, propose practical solutions, provide positive information, have the power to spread, move and inspire strongly in society," Mr. Vo Van Thuong assessed.

According to the President, the entire country is approaching a very important historical milestone - the 100th anniversary of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism; it is also a pivotal year in the term of the 13th National Party Congress with many great tasks requiring greater political determination and effort to realize the aspirations and vision for national development in the new period. This places increasingly heavy tasks, greater honor and responsibility on Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, demanding that journalists and media agencies strive even harder to live up to the people's trust and meet the requirements of: "Building a professional, humane, and modern press and media."

First of all, the President requested that press agencies and journalists must have a high sense of responsibility before the Party, the State, the people, and readers for the mission they shoulder.

Journalists must always be deeply aware that “doing journalism is doing revolution, journalists are pioneers on the ideological and cultural front of the Party”, “the task of journalism is to serve the people, to serve the revolution” as President Ho Chi Minh once advised. On the basis of steadfastness with the ideals and noble values of journalism, adhering to the basic principles, preserving core values, professional ideals, pure and humane professional ethics, upholding social responsibility, constantly creating, providing timely, accurate, objective, truthful, useful and reliable information to the Party, State and people.

Journalists continue to take the lead in the major issues facing the country (Figure 5).

The President urged journalists to continue demonstrating their courage, dedication, and leadership in addressing major, new, and challenging issues facing the country.

Secondly, the team of journalists continues to demonstrate courage, dedication, and leadership in addressing major, new, and difficult issues facing the country. They closely follow the vibrant realities of social life and the cause of national renewal, construction, and defense, promptly and vividly reflecting the great and historically significant achievements the country has attained under the leadership of the Party. They propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and regulations, provide useful information, raise public awareness, expand social democracy, and promote the role of social oversight and criticism by the press. They work alongside the government, businesses, and the people in finding solutions to address the problems arising in practice. Attracting the active participation of citizens in building a socialist rule-of-law state, building institutions, formulating policies and legal documents, performing the role of supervising the power and performance of public duties of officials and civil servants in the administrative apparatus...

Thirdly, the press must be the leading force, connecting and mobilizing resources, including the intellect, sense of responsibility, and dynamic, creative inspiration and dedication of the entire nation; nurturing, inspiring, and encouraging the aspiration for a prosperous and happy country, the will to overcome difficulties and challenges, and optimism and confidence in the bright future of the nation; building and promoting national unity, creating a strong driving force for development.

Fourth, resolutely fight to eliminate anything that hinders, restrains, or harms the country's development process. In the context of increasingly diverse and multifaceted information, many new and unverified issues, misinformation, and schemes to exploit freedom and democracy to go against the values and goals that the revolutionary press has been striving for, the press needs to be proactive, sensitive, detect and predict issues, firmly protect the Party's ideological foundation, and sharply combat false and hostile narratives, contributing to consolidating and fostering the people's trust. The press continues to be an important weapon in the fight against corruption, negativity, bureaucracy, waste, and social evils.

A cultural performance to welcome the ceremony.

Fifth, the press is an integral part of culture, a leading force in building and developing Vietnamese culture and the Vietnamese people. Every journalist and every media organization must be a role model, representing cultural values, a cultural organization, a cultural environment with cultural people, preserving the dignity, pride, and self-respect of journalism, overcoming temptations and challenges, and placing the interests of the Party, the Fatherland, the people, and the honor of the individual above all else in every written page and every journalistic product.

Continuing to discover and commend exemplary individuals and positive role models, spreading good values, affirming the dignity, soul, character, and intellect of the Vietnamese people, and guiding society towards the values of truth, goodness, and beauty. Through the bridge of the press, enhancing Vietnam's prestige and position, opening up opportunities to selectively absorb the finest aspects of human culture to enrich national cultural identity, and further strengthening friendship between the Vietnamese people and progressive, peace-loving people and friends around the world.

Sixth, in the face of the rapid development of science and technology, fierce competition from other information platforms, and changes in public information access behavior, every journalist must constantly learn, research, proactively integrate internationally, innovate strongly, practice professionally, and provide high-quality, reliable, and persuasive information on traditional platforms and especially on digital platforms, in order to attract and maintain the trust and respect of the public, and to win and capture public attention.

The series of articles by the Newspaper and Public Opinion highlighted the significant difficulties and obstacles in merging villages and hamlets in remote areas due to the vast geographical area, fragmented terrain, difficult transportation, and scattered population. Organizing activities and disseminating policies and guidelines to the people is a "difficult problem."

The reporting team visited and documented the situation in Dao Vien commune, Trang Dinh district, Lang Son province; and Duc Long commune, Thach An district, Cao Bang province – both border areas adjacent to China. In these areas, many difficulties remain, and the implementation of village mergers has revealed shortcomings, such as the inability to fully meet the criteria for villages as guided by the Ministry of Interior. Meanwhile, the differences in cultural characteristics among the ethnic groups living in the merged villages are also a significant issue that needs to be considered and resolved.

In particular, among the award-winning works is a series of 4 articles: The mission of serving the nation and society leads the way for revolutionary journalism by the group of authors Tran Lan Anh (An Huy), Nguyen Thi Van (Ha Van) of the Journalists and Public Opinion Newspaper, the Journalists Association of the Central Agency of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

The series of four articles, "The Mission of Serving the Fatherland and Society: Guiding Revolutionary Journalism," was created in the context of the country battling the arduous COVID-19 pandemic, while the press had to both engage in propaganda work and strive to overcome the inherent challenges of the economic aspects of journalism and the need for self-renewal. The times seemed to be testing the nation, its leaders, media organizations, and journalists on the information and communication front.

Under the direction of the newspaper's editorial board, the authors raised this issue with several dedicated media leaders such as journalist Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; journalist Pham Manh Hung - Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge of content, President of the Vietnam Voice of Vietnam Journalists Association; journalist To Dinh Tuan - Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper… In the conversations with journalists, what was particularly emphasized was the practical contribution of the press to information and communication during difficult times for the country, the spirit of journalism to maintain core values to serve society, the promotion of those core values in a mindset of adapting to change, innovation, professionalism, enthusiasm and creativity…

The message emphasized was particularly: The core values of journalism are immutable: honesty, fairness, balance, and professionalism in information; the verification of information; and above all, serving the reader and audience. Above all, media organizations must uphold these core values, because losing them would render them incapable of fulfilling their mission of serving the nation and society.
