Because the phone contained a lot of important information and data, Ms. Hang resolutely chased the robber and called on people to help control the subject.

At 12:17 pm on May 12, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hang (42 years old, Ngoc Thuy ward, Long Bien district, Hanoi ) was driving her motorbike slowly on Ngoc Thuy embankment while listening to a phone call from a relative. At this time, taking advantage of the empty road, a young man walking in the same direction approached her, snatched her phone and ran away.
"The robber was so sophisticated and gentle that I thought my phone had fallen to the ground," the woman recalled, stopping her car and looking down but not seeing her belongings.
The subject abandoned the vehicle and fled into a cemetery on Khai Son Street (Photo: NVCC). |
She looked around and saw the robber had sped up, holding her phone in his hand.
Reflexively, without thinking much, Ms. Hang accelerated to chase after the robbers. As she drove, she shouted loudly: "Robbery, robbery" to attract people's attention.
To distract the victim, the young man drove his motorbike up and down the dike. However, he did not expect that Ms. Hang knew the road well, passing by it two or three times a day because it was near her mother-in-law's house.

After persistently chasing the robber for about 3km, Ms. Hang sped up and cut in front of him, saying: "Can I have your phone?"
"Sorry," he replied, threw the phone at Ms. Hang and ran away.
After picking up her belongings, Ms. Hang still determined to pursue the suspect with the people to the end.
When turning onto Khai Son Street, the robber's motorbike slowed down, apparently broken down. He abandoned the motorbike and quickly hid inside a nearby cemetery. At this time, a large crowd gathered, asking about Ms. Hang and at the same time persuading the young man to turn himself in.
Upon receiving the report, Ngoc Thuy Ward Police arrived to resolve the incident and brought the subject to the headquarters for questioning.
The Commander of Ngoc Thuy Ward Police confirmed the incident and said he would coordinate with Long Bien District Police to investigate and clarify the matter.
"I was so scared that I didn't dare look straight at the robber. When my family arrived, I breathed a sigh of relief," Ms. Hang recalled.
That same afternoon, Ms. Hang went to the phone store to prove her assets. It was an iPhone 12, which cost 24 million VND and is now valued at 8-9 million VND after being used for a period of time. She did not return home until 6 p.m.
That night, she could not sleep. Her relatives were worried and advised her not to do that again, in case the suspect carried a weapon or had help, it could be life-threatening.
The next morning at the company, Ms. Hang was asked by her colleagues to take pictures like a "celebrity".
"At first, I thought I had lost my property or used money to exchange with the robber. Thanks to perseverance and luck, I was able to get my phone back," said Ms. Hang. As a sales employee for a local car company, Ms. Hang's phone is very important to her because it contains a lot of customer information and data.
She said she usually wears high heels, but yesterday she changed to slippers for convenience. Unexpectedly, this sudden change helped her chase the robber easily. Many people jokingly called her "magic slippers".
"I am a strong and individualistic person, but I never thought I would chase a robber. Now that I think back, I feel like I was too reckless," the woman said, laughing.
