VOV.VN - For nearly 10 years in Hau Giang province, there has been a woman who has been growing grass in pots every day and selling it. This “unique” job has brought her a monthly income of more than 15 million VND. The grass she grows is called lucky grass.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh (60 years old), residing in Trau Hoi A hamlet, Thanh Xuan commune, Chau Thanh A district, Hau Giang province, has been involved in the lucky grass growing profession for nearly 10 years.

This type of grass is actually grown from dragon fruit seeds. When it sprouts, it grows into a lush green plant that can be used to decorate desks, living rooms, or as gifts... to help relieve stress after work, so many people call it lucky grass.

To create a beautiful standard lucky grass product, the first step is to bend the frame, wrap the growing medium to create shape, then dry it thoroughly.

Next comes the step of spreading the seeds onto the substrate. This step requires gentleness, meticulousness, and carefulness to ensure that when the seeds germinate, they cover the entire surface of the frame.

After 3 days of sowing, the plants on the frames germinated.

To keep the plant green, in addition to exposing it to the sun every morning, Ms. Oanh also keeps the plant moist enough.

With many beautiful and different shapes such as: heart, pair of swans, ball, star, double heart, leaf, bonsai, money tree..., Mrs. Oanh's lucky grass products are very popular.

Every month, Ms. Oanh sells her products to the markets of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, mainly Ho Chi Minh City, at prices ranging from 50,000 - 120,000 VND/pot, depending on size; pots with double trees, bonsai trees, 5-ball trees... cost from 300 - 1 million VND/tree. Thanks to that, she earns a profit of more than 15 million VND/month.

Mrs. Oanh spent time picking off the seed coats still stuck on the trees and pruning the weak ones.

The time from seedling to sale is about 1 month. If customers water the plant properly, about twice a week, and expose it to the early morning sun once every few days, the plant can live for more than 1 year.

To have an eye-catching bonsai pot, Ms. Oanh also covers the surface of the pots with a layer of lucky grass.

Growing lucky grass is a new model, currently only Mrs. Oanh’s family is doing it in Hau Giang province. Initial results show that this is a promising model, helping to develop the family economy , especially for households with little capital and little land for production.
