Woman who poured gasoline on her mother's house and burned it down was sentenced to more than 22 years in prison.

On September 12, the People's Court of Hung Yen province held a trial for the murder and property destruction case that occurred at the end of October 2022. The defendant involved in this case is Do Thi Dua (33 years old, residing in Nhan Hoa Ward, My Hao Town, Hung Yen Province). Dua and her two sisters poured gasoline and burned down their mother's house.

At the end of October 2022, when the case occurred, it caused a stir in public opinion because of its extremely serious nature and consequences, causing 3 deaths, including Dua's mother and 2 sisters.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Hung Yen province, due to a conflict in the division of land in the family, three sisters, including Do Thi Dinh (41 years old, residing in Thien Loc village, Trung Hoa commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province), Do Thi Diem (35 years old, residing in Trung Hung commune, Yen My district) and Do Thi Dua, discussed pouring gasoline on the house of their mother, Ms. Vu Thi Deu (62 years old, residing in Thien Loc village, Trung Hoa commune, Yen My district).

To commit the crime, on the morning of October 30, 2022, Do Thi Dinh, Do Thi Diem, and Do Thi Dua made an appointment to go to Ms. Vu Thi Deu's house and then broke down the wall. After that, Diem drove Dinh to buy gasoline.

At about 9:30 a.m. the same day, after breaking down the wall of Mrs. Deu's house, Diem took a can of gasoline and poured it on the floor. Dinh closed the living room door to prevent anyone from coming in to stop him, then Dua and Do Thi Diem held Mrs. Deu and set her on fire.

As a result, Ms. Deu and her two daughters, Diem and Dinh, died on November 18, November 26 and December 14, 2022.

Do Thi Dua alone suffered 22% injuries. Total property damage was over 11 million VND.

The panel of judges assessed that in this case, Do Thi Dua played the role of an accomplice, helping Diem and Dinh commit the crime. Diem and Dinh are dead, so the court did not consider handling it.

Based on the level of the defendant's crime and the provisions of the law, the People's Court sentenced defendant Do Thi Dua to 20 years in prison for murder and 2 years and 6 months in prison for property destruction. The total sentence the defendant must serve is 22 years and 6 months in prison.
