In 7 months, Vietnamese people spent 51.5 million Australian dollars (33.3 million USD) to buy lobsters from this country, an increase of more than 138% compared to the same period last year.
The above information was shared by Ms. Rebecca Ball - Senior Trade and Investment Counselor of the Australian Government - at the event of the first official import of Australian East lobster into Vietnam on the afternoon of September 19.
According to Ms. Rebecca Ball, seafood products from this country are increasingly popular with Vietnamese people. Specifically, in the first 7 months of the year, the total value of seafood exported from Australia to Vietnam reached about 65 million Australian dollars. Of which, lobster accounted for more than 79%, equivalent to 51.5 million Australian dollars (about 33.3 million USD), an increase of more than 138%, or 2.3 times higher than the same period last year.

According to the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, the official export of the first batch of Australian eastern lobsters to Vietnam in September is a stepping stone to help the country's seafood export turnover increase in the final months of the year. Previously, Western and Southern Australian lobsters to Vietnam were also welcomed by many consumers.
As an official seafood importer, Mr. Tran Van Truong - CEO of Hoang Gia Seafood - said the company imported the first batch of about 500 East Australian lobsters.
According to him, this type of shrimp has a different appearance from those from Western and Southern Australia because they have red legs and a green body. Due to the high salinity and harsh terrain of the sea, this type has firmer meat and a larger body than shrimp from other regions.
Along with Australian lobster, the country’s high-end fruit, vegetable, dairy, wine, meat and seafood products will also be introduced to Vietnam in September. At the Australianeducation and cuisine introduction program in Ho Chi Minh City, businesses from both sides said they would explore and promote more cooperation opportunities.
In 2022, the total bilateral trade value between Vietnam and Australia reached nearly 15.7 billion USD, an increase of more than 26% compared to 2021. This growth has made Australia the 7th largest trading partner of Vietnam. In return, Vietnam has become the 10th most important trading partner of Australia.
