By the end of September, Vietnamese organizations and associations in the UK and some UK organizations had raised a total of 61,367 pounds (more than 1.96 billion VND) to support people in areas damaged by Typhoon Yagi . These organizations include the Vietnamese Association in the UK (VAUK); the Vietnamese Business Association in the UK (VBUK); the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in the UK and Ireland (VIS); the Oxford Students' Association; the Vietnamese Women and Children's Association in the UK; the Vietnamese community in Birmingham and Liverpool; the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network (VUKN) and Vietnamese representative agencies in the UK.

The fundraising campaign is carried out flexibly through various activities, from calling for support from members directly or online, to organizing community activities, cultural and sports events in which fundraising activities are integrated. These activities have received enthusiastic sharing and support from overseas Vietnamese in the UK and local people.

Professor Nguyen Xuan Huan, Chairman of VIS, shared that in just 2 days of campaigning, the association had raised a total of 4,000 pounds (131 million VND), including support from a local politician. Professor Huan said he felt proud because the sharing came not only from Vietnamese intellectuals in the UK but also from British friends. This reflected the development and prestige of VIS in the locality.

Mr. Dinh Duc Kien, a member of the Organizing Committee of the Mid-Autumn Festival for Children in Liverpool, stated that in the face of the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in some northern provinces, the Organizing Committee decided to transfer 1,000 pounds (33 million VND) to the account of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front as soon as the community's Mid-Autumn Festival ended. Mr. Kien shared that this is the wish of the Vietnamese community in Liverpool, together looking towards their homeland with the hope of alleviating the losses of their compatriots in the storm-hit areas, encouraging them to overcome this difficult time.

Ms. Lam Oanh, Head of Charity, Association of Vietnamese Women and Children in the UK, said that the association launched a movement to support people in flood-hit areas right from the first days after Typhoon Yagi and was very moved by the enthusiastic response from association members, as well as a large number of overseas Vietnamese in the UK. According to Ms. Jane Huong, a member of the association, in addition to mobilizing within the association and the Vietnamese community, the association also has many initiatives to call for support from local people and international friends, such as organizing Vietnamese children to raise funds through performing arts at the Asia Festival cultural exchange event in London; mobilizing association members to post notices calling for support at their stores; organizing Vietnamese children to carry out fundraising activities.

Ms. Lam Oanh said that by the end of September, the association had raised a total of 10,588 pounds (349 million VND). Through the local Fatherland Front, representatives of the association on September 22 directly went to Cao Bang and Lao Cai provinces, visited and presented gifts to more than 100 households with an amount of 1 million VND/household. In the near future, representatives of the association will directly present 5,000 pounds (164 million VND) through the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Hanoi.

Other associations also quickly donated money with the hope of providing timely support to those most affected by Typhoon Yagi.

Mr. Tang Tuan Tu, Chairman of VAUK, presented the amount of 100 million VND donated by the association at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Fatherland Front in Hanoi on September 27, while VBUK transferred more than 236.7 million VND to MTTQT.

Meanwhile, the amount of 33,060 pounds (1.08 billion USD) donated by the Vietnamese community in Birmingham city is expected to be handed over directly by the community's representative in Vietnam in the near future.

The kindness and sharing of the Vietnamese community in the UK with their compatriots in the homeland is a testament to the spirit of national solidarity and the tradition of mutual love of Vietnamese people no matter where they live./.
