Every amateur golfer's dream

Every year in mid-June, the world of golf turns its attention to an event rich in tradition and the most prestigious of amateur golf – The Amateur Championship, commonly known as the “British Amateur”.

Established in 1885, The Amateur Championship is one of the oldest golf tournaments in the world. The tournament is organized annually by The R&A – co-run by The Open – bringing together the best amateur golfers from all continents.

Many names that later became legends have left their mark here, from Bobby Jones (3 The Open titles, 4 US Opens and 5 US Amateurs), to Ryder Cup champions like Sergio García and José María Olazábal.

Winning The Amateur Championship is not only the ultimate source of pride for any amateur golfer, but also the “golden ticket” to a professional future.

The champion will receive direct entry into The Open, US Open and The Masters, three of the world's top four professional majors.

Big Breakthrough

Accepting the invitation to participate in the tournament, Nguyen Anh Minh became the first Vietnamese golfer to tee off at the event considered a "major" for amateurs this year.

At the age of 18, Nguyen Anh Minh is no longer a strange name in the Vietnamese golf world. He has won the national championship, has been a pillar of the Vietnamese golf team for many years and is often present in the top of major tournaments in the country and region as well as making a strong impression in international tournaments.

Participation in The Amateur Championship is not only based on playing ability but also on ranking on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

The accumulated points from international tournaments over the years have helped Anh Minh surpass the R&A invitation threshold – something no Vietnamese golfer has ever done before.

According to the official list announced by The R&A, Anh Minh is among nearly 300 amateur athletes from more than 38 countries competing at two famous golf courses in England: Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports.

The tournament takes place over 6 days (June 16-21), starting with 2 rounds of 18 holes of stroke play on 2 courses. After that, the 64 golfers with the best scores and ties will enter the knockout round to find the champion.
