Causes and solutions for noisy car wipers

1. Causes of car wiper noise

Worn car wiper blades

Car wiper blades are made of heat-resistant silicone, but if used for a long time without maintenance, the wiper blades will become hard, reducing cleaning efficiency and when the wiper blades come into contact with the glass surface, they will make a screeching sound.

The thin, soft wiper blade is also easily corroded when used frequently. When the blade is worn, the wiper body will touch the glass, causing the wiper to make noise. More seriously, it can lead to scratches on the glass.

Motor system failure

When using wiper motors, maintenance is often not paid much attention, so after a long time of use, the motor will dry out and when starting, it will create noise that is annoying to the listener.

Windshield not cleaned

Dirt and debris on the windshield or wiper blades can cause squeaking. Dirt particles grinding against the glass surface will create a squeaking sound. Dirty wiper blades will cause the rubber to warp and not clean effectively, creating long water streaks or liquid films that are very unsightly.

Poor quality windshield washer fluid

Using low-quality filtered water, soapy water, and windshield washer fluid is one of the causes of noise. Because standard windshield washer fluid will create smoothness and good surface cleaning ability, there will be no noise. Low-quality types will create large friction and therefore noise.

Wrong size wiper

Wiper blades that are too large or too small can also cause noise when wiping. Because the wrong size causes the wiper blade to not make full contact with the glass surface, creating noise due to less friction.

Weather conditions

When the wipers are used in heavy rain or strong winds, they also make noise. Because at this time, due to aerodynamics, the wipers are pressed too hard against the glass, creating more friction than normal and leading to noise.

2. How to fix noisy car wipers

Check wiper blade condition

Remember how long ago you last changed your wiper blades? Check for cracks, tears, or signs of wear on the blades. If they are worn, it's time to replace them.

Cleaning glass and wiper blades

Wash your car immediately if you see dirt on the glass surface, and also clean the wiper blades to see if there are leaves or dead insects stuck to them.

Use quality glass cleaner to reduce friction and clean glass surfaces better.

Check the wiper frame and wiper arm

If you have just replaced the wipers and the windshield washer fluid, check the wiper frame and the wiper arm for any unusual warping or misalignment. If so, repair or replace immediately.
