The Long Phu market building is dilapidated, causing concern among traders.

Long Phu Market, located in Long Phu commune (Can Tho City), is in a state of disrepair: the corrugated iron roof is damaged, the floor is peeling, and the drainage system is poor. With the rainy season approaching, many traders are worried that the market's dilapidated condition will affect their business, trade, and the safety of their goods.

The roof of the Long Phu market building is severely damaged.

Long Phu Market, built in 1995, covers a total area of 1,166m², comprising 40 kiosks, 5 stalls/lots, and 55 self-sufficient production and consumption points. After nearly 30 years of operation, the market's infrastructure, especially the covered market area, is seriously deteriorating. Specifically, the roof of the covered market is damaged in many places; the ceiling is stained, and some walls are completely open, causing leaks during rain. Ms. Tieu Thi Diep, a trader who has been working here for over 20 years, shared: "Every time it rains heavily, I have to use tarpaulins to cover my goods, but that's only a temporary solution, not a long-term one."

Sharing the same concerns, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam said: “The market's drainage system is ineffective, and the floor of the covered market is peeling. The infrastructure is deteriorating, customers are hesitant to shop, so business is slow. Traders hope the market will be repaired soon so they can stabilize their businesses.”

Mr. Huynh Tan Thanh, Chairman of the Long Phu Commune People's Committee, said: "The local authorities have received many comments from traders reflecting on the deteriorating condition of the Long Phu market building and have coordinated on-site surveys to record damaged items. Based on this, the local authorities have requested the city to consider and allocate investment capital soon to renovate and upgrade the Long Phu market to ensure the safety of traders and meet the buying and selling needs of the people."

Small business owners hope that the local authorities will soon pay attention and plan to repair the awnings, improve the drainage system, and comprehensively upgrade the market area, creating favorable conditions for the development of local trade and services.
