Information from the Vietnam Musicians Association said that Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hoanh Loan, former Deputy Director of the Institute of Music, passed away on the morning of June 3 due to a serious illness.

According to the records of the Vietnam Musicians Association, researcher Dang Hoanh Loan was born in 1943 in Ha Tay. From 1959 to 1963, he studied and graduated from the Faculty of Traditional Musical Instruments of the Vietnam Music School (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music). From 1964 to 1975, he conducted the Orchestra of the Inter-Zone 5 Opera and Drama Troupe. From 1976, he was a researcher and collector at the Institute of Music. From 1996, he was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Music until his retirement.

Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hoanh Loan is a music researcher who combines ethnographic methods. Therefore, his music research not only shows the values of musical scales in heritage music, but also shows the values of customs, traditions, cultural and literary values from heritages. During the process of music research, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hoanh Loan participated in a lot of fieldwork. Thanks to that, he has a close relationship with the heritage preservation community. With some heritages, this closeness allows him to "unveil" the secrets of the heritage. Thanks to such detailed knowledge, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hoanh Loan is a close friend of many talented musicians and ethnomusicologists. Among them are musician Nguyen Vinh Bao and researchers Tran Van Khe, Tran Quang Hai, Bui Trong Hien... His research is also the premise for many intangible cultural heritage dossiers submitted to UNESCO.
