Professor Nguyen Lan Dung said that his younger brother - Associate Professor, Doctor, musician Nguyen Lan Cuong - passed away on the morning of May 6, at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Vietnam National University, Hanoi . Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, musician Duc Trinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association - said that he is close friends with Professor Nguyen Lan Tuat - Mr. Cuong's brother.
Accordingly, musician Lan Cuong's large family participates in many fields of science and technology, but many members love music .
"Although not trained in music, Mr. Lan Cuong actively participates in activities and contributes a lot to the development of the Vietnam Musicians Association with songs, choirs...
Regarding archaeology, Mr. Lan Cuong is a professor, with specialized training, but regarding music, he is self-taught but has many good works, so he is very good," musician Duc Trinh commented.
According to Mr. Duc Trinh, in real life, musician Nguyen Lan Cuong is an energetic, positive person, loved by everyone. Over 80 years old, he still rides a motorbike to work everywhere.
"A few days ago, I visited him and he was weak. Hearing the news of his passing, I was very sad and sorry," said musician Duc Trinh.
Musician Truong Ngoc Ninh - Former Chairman of the Hanoi Music Association - assessed that Nguyen Lan Cuong is an enthusiastic person, who has been in charge of the choir of the Hanoi Music Association for many years with many successes.
"Despite his old age, he still works enthusiastically, creating positive inspiration for young people," Mr. Ninh recalled.
Musician Giang Son shared that musician Lan Cuong is a person full of energy, has many music awards. Friends and colleagues all admire his work.
"When he was sick, Uncle Lan Cuong still participated in writing songs about the National Assembly and the People's Council. He sent his song and is waiting for the results to see if the song won a prize.
"He also gave me a book on human anatomy, a thick book with a lot of valuable information. The book was written carefully and meticulously, proving that his expertise is very deep and extensive," said musician Giang Son.
Musician Giang Son also recounted memories of the late musician Lan Cuong: "He never thought he was over 80 years old. Last time, when he met me, he said he was only 48 years old, not 84. Hearing the news of musician Lan Cuong's passing, I was very sad."
Musician Lan Cuong was supported by his family in his artistic pursuits. In addition to his archaeological work, he was the Permanent Vice President of the Hanoi Music Association and a member of the Vietnam Musicians Association.
Musician Lan Cuong got married and had children quite late. He got married at the age of 41. His wife was his strong support, single-handedly taking care of the house and raising the children because he was constantly away on archaeological trips everywhere.

"The interesting thing is that in Nguyen Lan's extended family, all the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren... if they are male, have the word Lan after their last name. When all are gathered together, my extended family has about 80 people, creating a very special community," he once shared during his lifetime.

He is a leading expert in paleoanthropology, head of national projects on research, restoration and repair of four Vietnamese bodies in pagodas: Dau, Tieu Son and Phat Tich... He is the General Secretary of the Vietnam Archaeological Association.
