Form U23 Timor Leste vs U23 Thailand
In Group C, U23 Timor Leste was rated the lowest. However, the team under the direction of coach Simon Elissetche made everyone admire their tenacious fighting spirit. In the opening match, U23 Timor Leste was continuously created a 2-goal gap by U23 Myanmar at the beginning of each half.
But instead of being discouraged and losing the match, Luis Figo and his teammates still fought hard and finally got the results they deserved. The goals of Vabia Canavaro and Alexandro Bakhito in the 75th and 90+1 minutes helped U23 Timor Leste snatch a valuable point.
However, the door to the next round for coach Elissetche and his team is still very narrow. Because if they want to win a ticket to the semi-finals, U23 Timor Leste must defeat U23 Thailand. Because in case of losing or drawing, U23 Timor Leste will be eliminated or will have a hard time competing for the top spot.
Even if they are lucky enough to win second place in Group C with 2 points, U23 Timor Leste will hardly have a chance to continue because the second place with the best result will easily fall into Group A.
However, in the context of entering the tournament with a relaxed mentality, not placing too much emphasis on achievements, U23 Timor Leste can still create certain difficulties for the opponent on the other side of the battle line.
U23 Thailand is one of the three strongest candidates for the championship, along with U23 Vietnam and host U23 Indonesia. However, the young War Elephants are facing a lot of pressure due to their poor performance in friendly matches before their trip to the archipelago.
Since the beginning of this year, U23 Thailand has played a total of 5 friendly matches and lost all of them. This includes a hard-to-swallow 2-3 loss to the underdog U23 Hong Kong (China).
Despite such a lackluster performance, the team under coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul still aims to win the championship.
Sharing during the training session before the opening match, midfielder Chaipol Athon was confident in his team's ability to win the championship: "The whole team is ready and we are working hard to fix our mistakes. Against Timor Leste, we cannot be careless because the goal of U23 Thailand is to win the championship."
In the past, U23 Thailand did not achieve impressive results in the U23 Southeast Asian tournament. The young War Elephants have only been crowned once, but that was 2 decades ago. In the most recent tournament held in 2023, the young boys from the Golden Temple lost in the semi-finals to U23 Indonesia and finished 3rd overall.
In all aspects, U23 Thailand is still considered to be in a superior position. But to pocket all 3 points, Yotsakon and his teammates may have to go through 90 difficult minutes.
