Form of U23 Vietnam vs U23 Indonesia
Despite being the only team to have a perfect record in the group stage, U23 Vietnam is still under many suspicious eyes.
However, with the convincing comeback to defeat U23 Philippines in the semi-finals, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team really made everyone look at them with admiration.
Creating an overwhelming game and many delicious opportunities but luck turned away, the Golden Star Warriors fell behind after a moment of loose defense. Instead of losing their spirit, Khuat Van Khang and his teammates showed their bravery by excellently swimming against the current.
The 2-1 victory did not reflect all the opportunities that U23 Vietnam created in front of the U23 Philippines goal. Because if the red-shirt strikers had taken advantage of them, the gap in the semi-final match would have been widened.
However, the much better quality performance compared to the previous two appearances was enough to give U23 Vietnam high confidence when entering the final.
Impressive ball control and recovery ability, coordinated moves to bring the ball down the flanks and through the wings were performed rhythmically and flexibly by the Golden Star Warriors.
Thanks to that, coach Kim Sang-sik's students repeatedly pushed the defense that had caused many difficulties for U23 Indonesia or U23 Malaysia into a state of confusion and helplessness.
U23 Indonesia is not actually a strong opponent as rumored before the tournament. Even before the final, the home team had to face the line of life and death being eliminated a couple of times.
Those were the tense battles in the final round of the group stage with U23 Malaysia or the clash with U23 Thailand in the semi-finals.
If the strikers from the Golden Temple country were sharper in finishing, especially in extra time, U23 Indonesia would be the team that would have to play in the third place match. But that does not mean U23 Vietnam is allowed to lose focus.
After all, the opponent still holds the home field advantage, along with the hot atmosphere at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium.
However, Dinh Bac, Trung Kien, Van Khang, Van Truong... are all too familiar with the pressure because they have experienced many harsh playgrounds. The boys from the S-shaped land themselves are no longer strangers to their opponents on the other side of the battle line.
In the most recent clash, at the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 final, U23 Vietnam defeated U23 Indonesia on penalties to win the championship (0-0 draw after 120 minutes).
The defeated generals at the hands of Van Khang and his teammates at that time included names that are currently in the home team this time, such as: Robi Darwis, Frengky Missa, Muhammad Ferarri, Kadek Arel and Arkhan Fikri.
Previously, the U23 generation of Vietnam had never lost to their opponents from the archipelago nation in nearly a decade. In the 3 encounters at the SEA Games or U23 Asia, the Golden Star Warriors won all 3 times, scoring 9 goals and conceding no goals.
