All border control restrictions in Japan were lifted on May 8, 2023, when the country downgraded the Covid-19 epidemic to Level 5 under the Infectious Disease Control Law, the same level as seasonal flu.
Japan expects about 20 million Japanese people to travel abroad by 2024, equivalent to pre-pandemic levels.
JTA also announced 24 destinations in the Foreign Tourism Promotion Policy Package, including: China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Canada, USA, Hawaii (USA), Guam, Mexico, Spain, Finland, France, UK, Germany, Italy, Türkiye and Australia.
| During the 2015-2019 period, Japanese visitors to Vietnam grew steadily, reaching an average of 9.1% per year. In 2019, there were 951,000 Japanese visitors to Vietnam. After opening international tourism (March 5, 2022), Vietnam welcomed 174,700 Japanese visitors (in 2022) and 204,000 in the first 5 months of 2023. |
