The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) and the Japan Tourism Association have recently launched a policy package to encourage Japanese citizens to travel abroad, with 24 selected destinations, including Vietnam.
This initiative was born out of the fact that JTA recognized this as a good opportunity to encourage Japanese people to travel abroad.

All border control restrictions in Japan were lifted on May 8, 2023, when the country downgraded the COVID-19 pandemic to Category 5 under the Infectious Disease Control Act, the same level as seasonal influenza.
Japan expects around 20 million of its citizens to travel abroad in 2024, a level comparable to pre-pandemic travel.
JTA also announced 24 destinations in its Outbound Tourism Promotion Policy Package, including: China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Canada, the United States, Hawaii (USA), Guam, Mexico, Spain, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Türkiye, and Australia.
| During the period 2015-2019, the number of Japanese tourists visiting Vietnam grew steadily, averaging 9.1% per year. In 2019, there were 951,000 Japanese tourists visiting Vietnam. After reopening to international tourism (March 5, 2022), Vietnam welcomed 174,700 Japanese tourists (in 2022) and 204,000 in the first five months of 2023. |
