On June 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that recently, the city has recorded many cases of critically ill patients being saved thanks to the coordination and sharing of emergency medicine among medical facilities through the application "Look up emergency medicine of hospitals in the city".

Typically, two severe cases of Methemoglobin were successfully treated at Trung Vuong Hospital thanks to the methylene blue drug urgently supplied by Children's Hospital 1.

Or botulinum poisoning cases were treated at Children's Hospital 2 with antidote support from Cho Ray Hospital.

This application not only helps to regularly update the inventory status of essential emergency drugs, but also acts as a coordination tool to support quick and timely decision making in emergency situations, contributing to protecting the lives of patients and improving the effectiveness of medical response throughout the city.

Accordingly, the application includes main functions such as: updating information on emergency drug inventory; looking up and searching for emergency drugs at medical examination and treatment facilities; monitoring and warning about emergency drug inventory at medical examination and treatment facilities to have timely intervention measures.

Implementing data sharing on emergency medicine inventories offers many important benefits, especially in emergency situations.

Hospitals can instantly check the inventory status of emergency drugs, ensuring timely treatment and saving lives in critical situations. Doctors can make quick decisions based on information about drug availability, and coordinate with other hospitals in case of need for transfer or sharing of drugs...

Previously, from September 2024, the Department of Health has implemented the update of existing emergency drug inventory data of a number of general and specialized hospitals in the city (obstetrics, pediatrics, infectious diseases, hematology, etc.) and continued to expand data sharing and software use with ministerial hospitals and private hospitals in the area.

The Department of Health recommends that hospitals proactively update inventory status, share data and coordinate when necessary to ensure that all emergency cases receive prompt and adequate support.

At the same time, it is desirable to expand the participation of ministerial, sectoral and private hospitals, which also play an important role in ensuring the supply of emergency drugs.

While waiting for the Ministry of Health to deploy a model of rare and emergency medicine reserves, the City Department of Health will propose to the City People's Committee to allow the construction and deployment of a number of reserve bases for emergency medicines on the list of rare medicines.

The goal is to ensure the ability to respond promptly to emergency situations in the area, contributing to improving the quality of health care for the people.

It is very difficult for hospitals to ensure adequate emergency medicine.

According to the Department of Health, ensuring timely and adequate supply of drugs, especially emergency drugs for specific specialties, is a vital requirement for the daily emergency operations of each hospital.

One challenge is that these drugs are often in low demand, used infrequently, some are very expensive, and in recent years some emergency drugs have become scarce, making it difficult for a hospital to ensure that it has enough of all emergency drugs.

The application of quick search for emergency drugs in hospitals will be a practical solution to the above challenges.
