On October 1, a representative of Gia Dinh People's Hospital (HCMC) said that doctors here had just closely coordinated with the anesthesia and resuscitation team of Saigon General Hospital to successfully perform surgery on a young woman with a very large uterine fibroid.
The patient, Ms. DTH (32 years old, residing in Cau Ong Lanh ward, Ho Chi Minh City), discovered a uterine fibroid tumor during a health check-up at a private medical facility, so she continued to go to Saigon General Hospital (where she registered for health insurance) for a re-examination.

She was introduced to the Obstetrics Clinic of Gia Dinh People's Hospital, located right at Saigon General Hospital.
Through examination and specialized paraclinical tests, the doctor determined that the uterine fibroid was about 8cm in size, a type of fibroid that can easily cause complications such as menorrhagia, hypermenorrhea, and is difficult to control with internal medicine.
Dr. Hua Thi Chi, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gia Dinh People's Hospital, said that Ms. H. had a large and dangerous tumor. If not operated on, it could lead to menorrhagia, hypermenorrhea, severe anemia, compression of organs in the abdomen, and even seriously affect the ability to conceive.
Fortunately, the patient was young and the uterus had only one tumor with clear boundaries, so the treatment team decided to remove the tumor and preserve the uterus.
Doctors from the two hospitals coordinated to treat and completely remove the tumor, especially preserving the uterus, opening up hope for the patient to continue giving birth in the future. After 4 days of treatment, Ms. H. was discharged from the hospital in a stable condition.
“I thought I would have to go to a higher-level hospital, and even have my uterus removed because the tumor was too big. As someone who still wants to have more children, keeping my uterus is extremely precious to me. The doctors not only treat me but also give me hope,” Ms. H. emotionally shared.

Doctor Hua Thi Chi emphasized that uterine fibroids are benign, but many people have no symptoms until the tumor grows large, causing dangerous complications.
“We recommend that women of all ages should have regular gynecological examinations once or twice a year to promptly detect abnormalities. Maintaining reproductive health is not only for yourself but also a way to preserve the happiness of the whole family,” said Dr. Chi.
