Despite the high risk of postpartum hemorrhage, the mother gave birth safely in Con Dao.

On the evening of September 10th, at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, a newborn baby weighing 2.95 kg was safely delivered despite the mother being at high risk of postpartum hemorrhage. Previously, when pregnancy reached the seventh month, some expectant mothers often had to fly to the mainland to await childbirth.

On the morning of September 11th, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, Tang Chi Thuong, announced that on the eighth day of the rotating medical team's work in Con Dao, the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center welcomed a healthy newborn baby.

Accordingly, at 8:10 PM on September 10th, a newborn baby weighing 2.95 kg was safely delivered in the delivery room of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.

The mother, pregnant for the first time at 39 weeks, was assisted in childbirth by Dr. Huynh Giang Chau (Hung Vuong Hospital). In addition, pediatrician Tran Thi Mai Lien (Children's Hospital 1) provided care for the newborn.

Reportedly, about three weeks before the due date, the expectant mother's family had planned to fly to the mainland to give birth at a hospital.

Upon hearing that specialist doctors, including obstetricians from Hung Vuong Hospital, were rotating shifts at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the family decided not to fly to the mainland and would give birth in their hometown of Con Dao.

At that time, Dr. Huynh Giang Chau personally examined the pregnant woman and discovered that she had moderate anemia and a high risk of postpartum hemorrhage.

However, thanks to the Center being equipped with a blood bank, there is peace of mind in selecting blood for pregnant women to give birth at the Center, eliminating the need to transfer them to a hospital on the mainland.

The expectant mother received direct assistance from the medical team, just like giving birth at Hung Vuong Hospital, with both obstetricians assisting with the delivery and pediatricians present in the delivery room to provide neonatal resuscitation immediately after birth.

The delivery went safely, both mother and child are healthy, and the whole family, as well as the doctors and nurses, were overwhelmed with joy and happiness.

Mr. Thuong added that previously, when a woman reached the seventh month of pregnancy, she would often have to fly to the mainland to wait for childbirth before returning to the island. Now, thanks to the obstetricians from Hung Vuong Hospital who are rotating shifts at the Con Dao Medical Center, pregnant women can confidently give birth right in their hometown.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health respectfully acknowledges and highly appreciates the efforts and serious work ethic of the specialist doctors currently working on rotation at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center.

Daily work logs over the past few days show a significant increase in the number of people seeking examination and treatment at the Center, two to three times higher than before.

Notably, there have been cases of complex emergency surgeries that saved patients' lives, laparoscopic appendectomy, and most recently, the first safe delivery in Con Dao, with both mother and child doing well.
