On December 7, the government and people of Con Dao Special Zone ( Ho Chi Minh City) held a grand ceremony at An Son Temple Relic.
This is the main activity within the framework of the 240th anniversary of Lady Phi Yen's death.
The Phi Yen death anniversary is the biggest cultural activity in Con Dao special zone.
The traditional festival of Lady Phi Yen's death anniversary has been included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The festival is associated with the legend of Lady Phi Yen, whose real name was Le Thi Ram. She was a loyal and patriotic woman who dissuaded the king from inviting foreigners to resolve internal national issues.
According to legend, she died in Con Dao on the 18th day of the 10th lunar month in 1785. People built An Son temple in residential area number 3 to worship her. Since then, the 18th day of the 10th lunar month every year has become an occasion for people to show their gratitude to the Lady.
The festival takes place over 3 days, from December 5 to December 7 (16-18 of the lunar October). The festival includes many cultural activities, sports and folk games. The highlight is the procession of the Hoi An Prince's spirit tablet and the bathing ceremony.
Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone, said that for many years, the death anniversary of Lady Phi Yen has played an important role in the spiritual life of the people.

The opening ceremony took place solemnly at An Son Temple with the participation of many locals and tourists. Everyone came to immerse themselves in the festival atmosphere and commemorate the merit of the Lady.
After the opening ceremony, 240 locals and tourists participated in a group tug of war. The number 240 symbolizes the 240th anniversary of her death. This is the opening activity of a series of cultural events imbued with the identity of the island region.
Within the framework of the festival, many folk games were organized and took place enthusiastically, creating a healthy playground to help physical training. The organizing committee also integrated traditional education and the preservation of folk games.

Along with that, the traditional cake making contest with 40 participating teams created a bustling atmosphere. Teams came from agencies, organizations and residential areas, presenting typical cakes from 3 regions such as banh nam, banh bot loc, banh bo thot not.
The bathing ceremony took place solemnly on the evening of December 5. At exactly 9:30 p.m., the ceremony began with the incense offering and welcoming the Lady. The water procession was performed by female students to the background of Southern folk music. The water used to bathe the Lady was pure rainwater mixed with the fragrance of 9 flowers.
After the bathing ceremony, the dance team performed a lotus dance to announce the good news. The statue of the Lady was dressed in new clothes. Locals and tourists respectfully offered incense and prayed for peace.
Before the Bathing Ceremony, the art program "An Son Temple - Everlasting Lullaby" took place impressively. The program included 3 chapters with nearly 20 singing and dancing performances./.
