This is an important step in the journey of digitalizing services and improving the quality of service of the airline. From December 1, 2025, passengers without checked baggage and not belonging to special groups are recommended to use biometric procedures throughout the journey through the VNeID application connected to the Vietnam Airlines system.
Vietnam Airlines has officially implemented biometric procedures on all domestic flights to bring a "paperless", fast and modern experience to passengers.
The service has been deployed at 18/22 domestic airports, allowing automation of all steps from identification, information verification to boarding pass issuance. Check-in time is only 1-2 minutes, significantly shortened compared to the traditional process but still ensuring absolute safety and security.
To make the service convenient, passengers need to note some important information below: Buy tickets through official channels of Vietnam Airlines. And passengers need to book tickets through official channels of Vietnam Airlines including website, Vietnam Airlines application, ticket office system and authorized agents.
Pre-flight preparation: Passengers check-in online on the VNeID application before going to the airport: Log in to VNeID with a level 2 identified account. On the main screen, select "Other services" → "Airline services".
Select Vietnam Airlines and check-in: Enter booking reference (PNR), ticket number or passenger information. Facial authentication (eKYC). Receive electronic boarding pass on the app.
Note: The VNeID and Vietnam Airlines applications need to be updated to the latest version. The phone needs to have a working camera to serve the identification. Passengers who have checked in online on the website and Vietnam Airlines application but have not done facial authentication can repeat the above steps to use the full biometric service.
When checking in at the airport: In case you have not checked in online yet: Passengers need to prioritize checking in at the kiosk and recording biometrics at the check-in counter equipped with facial authentication devices.
Passengers with checked baggage and special passengers who come to check in at the airport check-in counter can use their chip-embedded ID cards to do biometric procedures at the check-in counter with facial authentication device and continue to use biometric identification to go through security and boarding gates.
The synchronous application of biometric technology will help reduce waiting time, limit congestion at check-in counters, security checks, and boarding gates, and bring a more seamless, safe, and convenient flight experience to passengers. Vietnam Airlines will continue to coordinate with relevant authorities to expand the scope of implementation and improve service quality in the coming time.
