
For many years now, the family of Ms. Ha Thi Duc, Nam To residential group, has been growing vegetables on the two-crop rice field to increase the family's income.
Ms. Duc said: “With over 3,000 m2 of rice fields for two crops, this winter crop, my family planted 1,000 m2 of bitter melon for seeds, the remaining area planted tomatoes, vegetables, beans, watermelon. Tan Loc Phat Company purchased the output of bitter melon; I planted various vegetables in different seasons so the income will be higher than growing corn and potatoes like before. According to calculations, the income from winter crops is 5-6 times higher than from rice cultivation.”

Identifying the winter crop as the main crop of the year, after harvesting the crop, Mr. Dinh Xuan Dinh’s family in Dong Loi residential group immediately started to prepare the land to plant winter crops. By diversifying the crops, in recent years, the winter crop has brought the family a fairly high income.
Mr. Dinh said: “On an area of 3,000 m2 , I grow crops in a spread-out manner to have a regular income, especially to make full use of the land area that is not left vacant. With 2,000 m2 of chili growing, every winter crop my family earns about 90 million VND from selling chili and various vegetables.”

These days, the winter crop production atmosphere in all the fields of Cau Thia ward is taking place very excitingly and urgently. In 35/35 residential groups of Cau Thia ward, people are bustling to the fields to prepare the land for winter crop planting.
Ms. Ha Thi Xoan, Nam Tang residential group said: "With more than 3,000 m2 of rice fields, this winter crop, I use half of the area to grow early sticky corn, the rest to grow corn for livestock and vegetables to increase family income."

In the 2025-2026 winter crop, Cau Thia ward was assigned the target of producing 527 hectares of winter crops, of which more than 435 hectares are corn, the rest are vegetables of all kinds. To help people feel secure in winter crop production, Cau Thia ward has cooperated with companies to purchase output products for people.
Accordingly, up to this point, Cau Thia farmers have grown over 548 hectares of winter crops, reaching 104% of the plan; of which the majority of the area is corn, the rest is bitter melon for seeds, pumpkin for seeds, and commercial chili.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly - Chairman of Cau Thia Ward People's Committee said: In addition to corn as the main crop, the commune encourages people to plant vegetables with high economic value, arrange them in many batches, and plant them in different seasons to improve economic efficiency. In recent years, the average economic value of 1 hectare of winter crops in Cau Thia Ward has reached 200 - 300 million VND/crop.
To improve the economic efficiency of the winter crop, Cau Thia ward recommends that households properly implement the vegetable growing process in the direction of creating safe products, especially for short-term vegetables, leafy vegetables, and spices.

Along with that, the locality also increased the dispatch of cadres to residential groups to urge and guide people to produce according to the right time frame, apply intensive farming measures to increase productivity and efficiency per unit area; strengthen inspection and examination of agricultural materials in the area, ensure the quality of goods and suitable prices for production. At the same time, strengthen investigation and forecasting to detect early and effectively prevent pests and diseases arising in the winter crop.
