CNN on June 30 quoted information from US officials saying that a number of military bases, including the US base in Stuttgart (Germany) - where the headquarters of the US European Command (USEUCOM) is located - have raised the warning level to "Charlie".
According to the US military, this alert status applies when there is an incident or intelligence related to the possibility of terrorist acts targeting personnel or facilities.

A US official stationed at a base in Europe said he had not seen this level of alert in at least 10 years, stressing that this meant the military had received credible information about the threat.
USEUCOM spokesman Dan Day declined to comment specifically on the level of alert, saying the unit constantly assesses many factors that affect the safety of US troops overseas.
It is unclear what information the US military received to decide to increase security, but European officials have warned of the risk of terrorist threats on the continent, in the context of the European football championship (EURO 2024) in Germany and the upcoming Olympics in Paris, France.
The German government has added 580 international police officers to support domestic forces to ensure security for EURO 2024. Meanwhile, France has raised its security alert to its highest level since March. According to the US Embassy in Paris, terrorist attacks could occur without warning, targeting tourist sites, major sporting and cultural events, as well as public places that attract large crowds.
