According to data from the Mustgo booking platform with 2,000 hotel partners nationwide, bookings at tourist destinations during this year's Lunar New Year holiday are quite slow, and customers tend to book closer to the date.

Hotels in Central Vietnam, from Da Nang to Phan Thiet, still have many vacant rooms . In Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, international 5-star hotels have an average occupancy rate of over 50%. Local 5-star hotels are at around 80%, with almost all rooms fully booked during the three main holidays from February 11-13.

A representative from Movenpick Cam Ranh stated that they are currently recording over 55% of their bookings for the period of February 10-14 and expect to reach 90% occupancy. The main markets include South Korea, Vietnam, and a small group of Chinese tourists.

The situation in Quy Nhon is somewhat slower, with the 5-star segment reaching 30-35% occupancy. 3-4 star accommodations are at 50% capacity. To attract tourists, many places in Quy Nhon are offering discounts and waiving Tet surcharges, along with early booking promotions and free upgrades. During this period, Quy Nhon is primarily attracting domestic tourists.

Many hotels in Da Nang have also waived Lunar New Year surcharges to attract guests. Currently, 3-4 star accommodations and 5-star hotels in the city center are only operating at about 40% capacity. Bookings at beachfront 5-star hotels are higher, exceeding 60%.

Meanwhile, other coastal tourist destinations in the South are also waiting for visitors. In Vung Tau and Phan Thiet, the 3-4 star accommodation segment is only at about 30-40% occupancy, while the 5-star segment is higher, at around 60-70%.

In the Northeast region, the coastal area of Quang Ninh recorded below-average occupancy rates. Hotels with 3 stars or more achieved 30-40% occupancy. Cruise products were more popular with customers, reaching over 80% occupancy.

Hotel bookings in the Northwest region increased during the New Year holiday. Pham Thi Hong Dung, manager of the Y Ty Dai Ngan homestay, explained that the surge in guests was due to the snow and ice effect in January. Y Ty is always a popular destination during the Lunar New Year holiday every year.

"My place currently has an occupancy rate of around 50% due to having more rooms than other accommodations in the city center. We expect the number of bookings to increase in the next few days," Ms. Dung said.

In Sa Pa, 3-star hotels are almost fully booked; 4 and 5-star hotels have reached 80-85% occupancy. Most bookings were made for the period of February 11-13 (the 2nd-4th day of the Lunar New Year). The occupancy rate in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province, is similar, at around 85-88%. Accommodations with remaining rooms are mainly concentrated in Meo Vac district.

In Yen Bai, the upscale Le Champ Tu Le resort and Y Ty Clouds Homestay have announced that they have no rooms available until the 5th day of Tet (Lunar New Year).

Hoi An and Phu Quoc have announced they have reached maximum capacity , thanks to the influx of international tourists.

In Hoi An, representatives from Bel Marina Hoi An Resort reported that since mid-January, the hotel has recorded a 95% occupancy rate for the Lunar New Year holiday. Similarly, Emerald Hoi An Riverside Resort also achieved a 97% occupancy rate. Foreign guests accounted for 70-80%, mainly Korean tourists.

Hotel rooms in Phu Quoc, from 3 stars and above, are almost fully booked. Villas in the south of the island are also nearly fully booked. Occupancy rates on the island have increased significantly thanks to the large number of foreign tourists. In the first quarter, Phu Quoc continuously welcomed foreign tour groups.

Another destination, Da Lat, also experienced high occupancy rates during the Lunar New Year, reaching 80-90%, according to Mustgo data. The Colline Hotel near Da Lat market was fully booked from the 3rd to the 6th day of the Lunar New Year. The MerPerle Hotel had no rooms available from the 1st to the 7th day of the Lunar New Year. Da Lat was the most popular and sought-after destination for domestic tourists during the Lunar New Year, according to Booking.com.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Thao, Sales Director of Mustgo, assessed that for the 2024 Lunar New Year, domestic customers tended to book rooms close to the departure date, about 5-7 days in advance. The number of tourists traveling during the Year of the Dragon reached about two-thirds compared to last year, partly due to cost factors. High domestic airfares have led many tourists to shift their travel plans to overseas destinations.
