According to Hai Duong Tropical Diseases Hospital - the only specialized hospital for liver, biliary, and parasitology in Hai Phong city - from after the Lunar New Year until now (February 23rd to March 15th), the hospital has recorded more than 150 patients seeking in-depth examination for parasitology. A total of over 730 samples were tested, an increase of nearly 80% compared to the three weeks before Tet.
The need for early screening and detection of parasitic diseases increases due to the increased eating and traveling activities during Tet (Lunar New Year), which raise the risk of exposure to certain parasites. Additionally, the consumption of raw or undercooked foods also increases the risk of parasitic infections.
Common types of parasites found in patients seeking examination, testing, and treatment include pork tapeworm, large liver fluke, schistosomiasis, dog and cat roundworm, and threadworm. Patients often experience symptoms such as prolonged digestive disorders, dull abdominal pain, hives, allergies, or unexplained fatigue. Parasitic diseases can cause many dangerous complications such as intestinal obstruction, liver and bile duct damage, and chronic anemia.
