Many prestigious universities predict lower admission scores.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training , universities will only announce their admission cutoff scores based on the 2023 high school graduation exam results from 5 PM on August 22nd. However, based on the enrollment data, universities can initially predict the cutoff scores.

Specifically, recently, Dr. Nguyen Trieu Duong, Head of the Undergraduate Training Department of Hanoi Law University, predicted that the admission cutoff scores for the university based on high school graduation exam results in 2023 will decrease slightly compared to 2022 in some majors and subject combinations.

Many prestigious universities predict lower admission scores (Figure 1).

The reason is that the enrollment quota for Hanoi Law University in 2023 increased compared to 2022 (in 2023, the quota was 2,500, an increase of 135; the increased quota is for the Economic Law major at the main campus and the Law major at the University's branch in Dak Lak).

In addition, the school implemented an early admissions process and announced the admission scores early (from May 25th), with very high scores for all subject combinations.

Furthermore, when registering their preferences on the Ministry of Education and Training's admissions system, students have many different application options, and choosing Hanoi Law University is just one of many choices. Therefore, in reality, the percentage of eligible candidates who register and confirm their enrollment at the university will not be high.

According to the school's admissions plan, when the early admissions methods do not use up all the quotas, these quotas will be transferred to admissions based on the 2023 high school graduation exam results, so the cut-off scores based on the high school graduation exam results will generally decrease," Mr. Duong predicted.

Providing predictions on the cutoff scores for social science majors as a reference for candidates when registering their university admission preferences, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), said that the distribution of scores in this year's high school graduation exam is not too different from 2021, with some subjects showing slight fluctuations such as English, History, and Civic Education. This will be an important basis for candidates to consider when setting their preferences.

Regarding the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan stated that in 2022, the total number of training programs, admission methods, and enrollment quotas remained unchanged; therefore, the cutoff scores would not differ significantly from those of 2021.

According to Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, in recent years, some "hot" majors have had quite high admission scores, such as Korean Studies, Japanese Studies, Journalism and Communication, Psychology, and Dual-Person Management.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector of Hanoi University, all regular undergraduate programs at the university consider the D1 subject group, meaning English is used as a subject. Therefore, it is predicted that this year's cutoff scores may decrease by 0.5-1 point compared to last year due to a lower average score for this subject compared to the previous year.

Regarding the teacher training sector, Mr. Le Hoang Ba Huyen, Vice Rector of Hong Duc University, informed that in 2020 and 2021, the admission scores for the university's majors were quite high, from 22 points and above. He predicted that this year, the admission scores for Hong Duc University could range from 22 to 27-28 points, depending on the specific major.

However, teacher Le Hoang Ba Huyen also noted that this is only an initial prediction, and the actual cutoff score will depend heavily on the candidates' choices.
