Hoang Viet Nhat Thong Du Dia Chi is considered the first geography book of the Nguyen Dynasty. The book was written when Emperor Gia Long had just ascended the throne, the Nguyen Dynasty had just been established and was in the process of organizing and stabilizing the government after several centuries of war and division. Sharing about the book, Mr. Hoang Phong Ha, Vice President of the Vietnam Publishing Association, said that in 1802, King Gia Long assigned the Minister of War to write this book within 3 years. This book has the value of affirming the sovereignty of the country, the borders from north to south, as a unified strip of land, affirming the spirit and will of independence of the Vietnamese people. The book is also a valuable document of the Nguyen Dynasty as well as providing historians of the next generations with more materials to write history. Political Publishing House, Truth, commented that the book series has great significance in terms of science and history, and is the foundation for other geographical books compiled later. The book series clearly shows the developments in the fields of economics, national security and defense during the Nguyen Dynasty.
