Money-making jobs in the Mekong Delta (Last article)

Recently, the Government approved the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta. This is a huge project, attracting all forces and sectors to join hands to contribute.

Hopefully, a high-quality rice area with a modernly planned field system will bring about big changes for the people here. Certainly, the lives of the people in this area will be raised to a new level…

However, with current rice prices and productivity, farmers’ income can only increase by a few dozen percent. Meanwhile, to dramatically change the income of farmers in the Mekong Delta, it is probably necessary to combine many other activities besides rice cultivation.

I still wish that every farmer family in the Mekong Delta can earn at least 100 million VND or more each year. Nowadays, many families earn up to billions! These are the models that our people should learn from.

What to do to help people in the Mekong Delta increase their income?

I always follow the news and radio about the production of the people in the area. Wherever there are good models and high-income industries, I record them to inform and share with everyone. Besides, I also encourage scientists to guide farmers with advanced techniques and new industries to achieve higher income that they can learn. I hope everyone will continue to support this.

There are many professions and many subjects that give us surprising results. Right in the Mekong Delta, in addition to growing rice, people also do many other jobs that bring in very high incomes.

Here are some examples that the press has reported (calculated profit in million VND/ha/year): rice 45 million VND/ha, peanuts 70-90 million VND, shrimp intercropped with rice 90 million VND, sweet potatoes 90-100 million VND, mulberries 130 million VND, Taiwanese guava 270 million VND, organic longan 200-400 million VND, apples 340 million VND, snails 400 million VND, custard apples 400-500 million VND, high-tech vegetables (in Ho Chi Minh City) from 700-750 million VND, mangosteen 1 billion, durian 1.9 billion VND... That's not to mention shrimp farming, fish farming, and other aquatic specialties...

I have traveled through 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta. The people are so honest and kind. In many places, the houses are simple, with only a large jar of wine in the house! Water is readily available. The river is right next to the house. If each family sets aside about 10-20m2 to build an eel pond, the income will be very high.

Outstanding Vietnamese farmer Phan Khac Nhat Tien is applying a high-tech mud-free eel farming model.

In the North, eels only weigh about 300g, while in the South, there are eels weighing up to 1.5kg. Raising eels is very simple and brings high income. So, people living on the river should try to think about raising eels.

By the way, I would like to invite you to visit Mr. Le Thanh Tung's cricket farm in Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City. Here, he raises millions of crickets. Raising crickets is very easy! Children and the elderly can do it. All you need is a few plastic or cardboard boxes to have a place to raise crickets. Crickets lay eggs very well! Every day, we can collect tens of thousands of eggs. The eggs hatch into baby crickets after about a week of incubation, and after another month, they can be sold.

Mr. Tung also uses crickets to raise water bugs. Water bugs are a valuable commodity! Raising them is also very simple. We have written very specifically about the techniques of raising eels in mud-free tanks, raising crickets, raising water bugs, etc. All are in the book series " 1001 ways to do business" published by the Agriculture Publishing House. In that book series, there is also a book that people love to read, which is "How to raise snails". Raising snails is so fun! Raising them is so easy! In the Mekong Delta, snails can be raised anywhere. Please do not underestimate this. Many people have earned hundreds of millions thanks to raising snails.

Mr. Tran Thanh Long (residing in My Thanh Nam commune, Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province) once caught 3 baby elephant snakes while setting up a trap and brought them home to try raising. Unexpectedly, since then, this reptile has been attached to him until now, bringing him a stable monthly income...

If you are more daring, you can think about raising elephant snakes. Mr. Le Hong Minh in Thanh Phu commune, My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province is a pioneer in this. Currently, many places are raising elephant snakes. This is a non-venomous water snake, some weigh up to tens of kilograms, simple to raise but the income is extremely high!

I do not want to mention many fish, shrimp, and fruit tree species that our people know well. They are the objects that easily increase the income of families to hundreds of millions each year!

Technically, we have also mobilized scientists to write specifically in the book series " 1,001 ways to do business" for each of those subjects. The remaining problem is what profession each family chooses? That is the responsibility of the people. If each family is determined to do an additional suitable job (besides rice farming), the goal of achieving 100 million VND or more for each family is completely achievable.

Join hands with us so that every household in the Mekong Delta can rise to wealth.
