DTO - In recent times, the Veterans Association (VVA) at all levels in Dong Thap province has paid attention and taken care of its members so that they can have joy in warm and loving homes to settle down and make a living.

Local government leaders give gifts to Mr. Bui Van Chen's family

Mr. Bui Van Chen (born in 1959) is a member of the An Long Commune Veterans Association and used to participate in the local militia. In April 1979, Mr. Chen volunteered to perform military service and was admitted to the Military School under the Dong Thap Provincial Military Command. At the end of 1982, after being discharged from the army and returning to civilian life, Mr. Chen was granted 5,000 square meters of rice fields by the local government, but his life was still lacking.

For many years, Mr. Chen has been busy farming, his wife, Mrs. Duong Thi Nuong (born in 1979), sells sticky rice on the street to earn a daily income of 30,000 - 50,000 VND to cover family expenses and raise 2 children in a dilapidated wooden house in Ninh Thuan hamlet, An Long commune. Mr. Chen's family is very poor, unable to afford to build a new house. When the Veterans Association and local authorities organized the construction of the "Comradely Love" house, veteran Bui Van Chen was very happy. The house has an area of 124 square meters, built in the style of a stilt house on stilts, with corrugated iron roof and walls... worth over 100 million VND. Of which, members of the local Veterans Association contributed and supported 40 million VND; the remaining amount was contributed by family and clan for construction. Veteran Bui Van Chen happily shared: "With the support of the Veterans Association and local authorities to build this new house, my family is very happy and can confidently increase production, escape poverty, and stabilize our lives."

Mr. Nguyen Danh Phong (born in 1948) is a member of the Association of War Veterans in An Long commune. In 1971, Mr. Phong joined the army in Battalion 3, Regiment 48, Tay Nguyen Army Corps. In 1981, after being discharged from the army and returning to civilian life, his life was very lonely. There was still shrapnel in Mr. Phong's lungs. The wound was always raging and he could not do heavy work. Since then, his family's daily life had to rely on the help of his wife and children. With the Association of War Veterans' support of 40 million VND, and the family contributed more than 40 million VND to complete the "Comradeship" house, Mr. Nguyen Danh Phong happily expressed: "Before, I lived in a dilapidated house, worried about the rain. Thanks to the Association of War Veterans' help, I was able to build a warm and spacious house."

Also in An Long commune, Mr. Vo Van Khinh (born in 1956) used to join the DKZ Artillery Regiment of An Giang province. In 1986, after being discharged from the army, veteran Vo Van Khinh did many jobs, but life was still lacking. Over the years, he and his wife had to struggle with eel farming to earn income and raise 2 grandchildren in a dilapidated thatched house. Mr. Khinh's family situation was very difficult, unable to build a new house. When the local Veterans Association built a house "Comradely affection" for him, veteran Vo Van Khinh happily said: "With support of 45 million VND, my family also saved and contributed more to build a spacious and cozy house. My wife and I are very grateful to the Veterans Association".

It is difficult to describe the joy and happiness of the lonely CCB members when they have a warm house with camaraderie to protect them from the rain and sun, to work and produce with peace of mind, and to improve their quality of life according to the motto "settling down and having a career".
