Explosion in Dung Quat Economic Zone, 9 people injured

On the afternoon of November 3, an explosion occurred at Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company Limited (headquartered in Dung Quat Economic Zone, Quang Ngai province), injuring 9 people.

According to information from the company, at around 1:30 p.m. today, many workers from the Pipe Workshop - Ship Equipment Workshop - Manufacturing Plant were welding and cutting at the bottom of the Legend ship's pump room. Suddenly, the Void tank at the bottom of the pump room suddenly caught fire, causing burns to the workers.

Accordingly, the initial cause was due to the oil pipeline valve leaking into the Void tank. At the same time, workers were carrying out work to start a fire. Oil vapors generated in the previously opened empty tank flew up and encountered sparks, causing a fire and explosion.

The Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Industrial Zones of Quang Ngai province said that some people who suffered severe burns in the explosion were promptly taken to Da Nang for emergency treatment. The remaining cases were taken to Quang Nam Central General Hospital.

The Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and industrial parks of Quang Ngai province is coordinating with authorities to clarify the cause of the incident.
