On September 1, 1954, at the Doi Giang Relic Site, Tien Hoi Commune, President Ho Chi Minh received the Letter of Credentials presented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China La Quy Ba. This was the first Letter of Credentials presentation ceremony since the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was founded on September 2, 1945.
This event took place just a few months after the Geneva Agreement was signed, ending the nation's heroic resistance war against French colonialism and opening the door for Vietnam to participate deeply in the international integration process.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Dy Nien recalled: "This was a special Credentials Presentation Ceremony because at that time we did not have beautiful villas or grand houses to hold it. President Ho decided to hold a very solemn Credentials Presentation Ceremony at the Dai Tu Liberated Zone, on a very beautiful sim hill in Thang Loi hamlet, Tien Hoi commune."
The presentation of credentials at Doi Giang was one of the first milestones of Vietnam's diplomacy, marking a historic step forward in the long-standing relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), strongly encouraging the resistance of the Vietnamese people, creating favorable conditions for the development of relations between the two countries in all aspects.
