After HMD Global and Nokia renewed their brand licensing agreement in late September, the first product in the new phase of cooperation between the two sides could be the second-generation Nokia 800 Tough rugged phone.

According to a reliable source specializing in HMD Global and Nokia on the social network X, the company is developing a new Nokia 800 Tough model, the successor to the durable keyboard phone launched in 2019. Like the first generation, the device is still aimed at the group of users who need a basic phone with high durability, serving well in harsh conditions.

The source said the changes on the new version are quite modest. The Nokia 800 Tough 2025 version is likely to replace the microUSB charging port with USB-C and run KaiOS 3.1 operating system. In addition, the overall design is almost unchanged. Leaked images show that the device still has a single camera, flash and speaker grille placed side by side on the back.

With a focus on durability, the new generation Nokia 800 Tough is likely to continue to achieve IP68 water and dust resistance standards and MIL-STD-810G military durability certification similar to the old model. These are factors that helped the first version become popular among users working outdoors or in harsh environments.

Nokia 800 Tough has a 2.4 inch TFT screen, Snapdragon 205 processor, 512 MB RAM and 2 MP camera. The device supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and a 2,100 mAh battery. With a modest configuration but good impact resistance and weather resistance, the product was once considered one of the rare "super durable" phones on the popular market.

If the leaked information is correct, the second generation Nokia 800 Tough will be a minor upgrade, focusing on improving charging capabilities and software rather than a new design. HMD Global has not yet announced the launch date of this product.
