Tighten preparations before the exam day.
The entrance exam for the first year of high school (2026-2027) took place from May 27th to 28th. Across the city, 18,002 students registered to take the exam for 10th grade, an increase of over 5,000 compared to last year. The exam was held at 48 testing locations with 765 examination rooms.
Over the past few days, examination centers have been urgently completing preparations to ensure the exam takes place safely, seriously, and in the best possible environment for candidates. At the Nguyen Chi Dieu Secondary School examination center, preparations were completed several days in advance. This center has 456 candidates participating in 19 examination rooms. The electrical system, fans, lighting, fire safety, security cameras, and cabinets for storing exam papers and answer sheets have all been thoroughly checked. Areas serving the examination board have also been fully arranged to ensure the examination process is conducted according to regulations.
Mr. Doan Van Tien, Chairman of the Examination Council of Nguyen Chi Dieu Secondary School, said that thanks to extensive experience in organizing exams, the implementation was quite systematic. However, the examination centers remained vigilant because this is an important exam for students and parents. All stages, from preparing documents and guiding candidates to preparing facilities and invigilating, security, and preventing cheating, were carried out strictly according to regulations to create the best conditions for candidates to feel secure while taking the exam.
Due to the hot weather conditions during the exam, all examination centers prioritized health care and support for candidates. Each center was equipped with medical personnel, drinking water, fans, and volunteers to assist students throughout the exam period. Furthermore, the education sector developed contingency plans to handle unforeseen situations such as power outages, traffic congestion, extreme weather, or other unusual incidents. Backup generators were prepared in the exam paper printing area and at all examination centers. Security, food safety, medical services, and fire prevention measures were implemented comprehensively with the coordination of the police, health, electricity, and local authorities.

According to the Department of Education and Training, the risk of cheating in exams using high-tech devices is becoming increasingly complex with many sophisticated forms such as miniature earphones, communication devices, or artificial intelligence applications. Therefore, inspection and supervision at this year's exam will be strengthened. Exam supervisors will receive thorough training on exam organization procedures, skills in identifying high-tech cheating devices, and handling unforeseen situations. The education sector will also intensify the dissemination of exam regulations, strengthen supervision, and closely coordinate with the police force to ensure the exam is conducted seriously, fairly, and in accordance with regulations.
Efforts to reduce pressure on candidates
According to Mr. Nguyen Tan, Director of the Department of Education and Training, this year's 10th grade entrance exam is being held earlier than usual to align with the schedule of the 2026 High School Graduation Exam. This change allows students to take the exam immediately after completing their studies, avoiding the pressure of prolonged revision and giving them ample time for a proper summer break.
This year's exam also has several notable new features, such as halving the number of required documents for candidates. In addition, the exam time for specialized subjects has been shortened by one session compared to the previous academic year to streamline the exam schedule and reduce pressure on students. Simultaneously, the education sector is strengthening the application of information technology in exam management and organization, and tightening inspection and supervision.

The early start of the exam, coupled with a shortened preparation time, has placed significant pressure on staffing and infrastructure preparation at examination sites. Developing this year's grading plan has also been challenging due to its dependence on the schedule of the 2026 High School Graduation Exam, particularly in terms of personnel mobilization, grading site arrangements, exam paper processing, and results announcement. Furthermore, the implementation of a two-tiered local government model and changes in administrative units necessitate a thorough review of enrollment areas and priority groups for candidates to ensure the rights and accuracy of the admissions process.
Despite the high number of 9th-grade students this year, exceeding 18,500, the city's Department of Education and Training affirms that it will ensure sufficient school places for all students after enrollment. Mr. Nguyen Tan stated that the education sector has coordinated with local authorities to review the classroom system at high schools and vocational training centers to ensure enough places for students after enrollment.
For students who do not get admitted to public high schools or who wish to pursue continuing education or vocational colleges, the education sector will still ensure that they have sufficient learning conditions and facilities to continue their studies in accordance with their aspirations. This is also a solution to effectively implement universal education and Resolution 71 of the Central Committee on breakthroughs in education and training development.
The entrance exam for 10th grade is not only aimed at selecting students but also serves as an opportunity to evaluate the teaching and learning process of schools; it also helps students reassess their abilities and learning conditions so they can continue to strive harder when entering high school. The leaders of the Department of Education and Training stated that the department will make every effort to ensure that the organization of the entrance exam and the competency assessment is fair and objective, creating the best possible conditions for students.
