Tet (Lunar New Year) is perhaps the most anticipated time for farmers in the province because it's when purchasing power increases sharply and prices rise. Therefore, many farmers choose this time to boost production and bring high-quality products to the market that meet consumer demand.

Vegetables and fruits are among the items with a sharp increase in demand during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). In the specialized vegetable-growing area of Tuy Loc, Nam Cuong ward, people are actively working in the fields to care for and harvest their crops.

Residents of Tuy Loc, a region specializing in vegetable cultivation, are harvesting their first crop of vegetables after the floods.

With approximately 150 hectares of various vegetables, farmers in the Tuy Loc vegetable growing area have harvested their first crop after the floods and are preparing to sow seeds for the second crop.

This year's Typhoon No. 10 flooded the entire area of our family's specialized vegetable farm. As soon as the water receded, we urgently prepared the land to plant leafy and fruiting vegetables with short growing seasons.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Huan, residing in Minh Long residential area, Nam Cuong ward.

This year, the flooding wasn't as deep and receded faster than last year, so the land reclamation process wasn't as difficult. In return, the new alluvial soil has helped the vegetables grow well. Currently, Mr. Huan and many other residents in the ward are rotating crops such as kohlrabi, cabbage, and cauliflower, closely monitoring the plants' growth and controlling pests and diseases to ensure quality produce for the Tet holiday.

Cauliflower and kohlrabi are popular choices for many people to grow.

In Ngoi Chau residential area, Au Lau ward - considered the "peach blossom village" of the province with more than 40 households growing peach blossoms, supplying tens of thousands of ornamental peach blossom trees to the market every Tet holiday - people are also actively taking care of the trees to ensure they bloom at the right time for Tet.

Mealybugs are a common pest right now.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hue, who has 26 years of experience growing peach trees in Ngoi Chau, shared: "My family has nearly 1,000 peach trees. This year's floods submerged 90 trees. Fortunately, the water receded quickly this year, so the trees didn't die like last year."

Currently, my family is focusing on caring for the flooded plants and manually removing mealybugs. We will begin the leaf stripping process in about 15 days. Due to the extreme weather, we have to constantly monitor and care for the plants, applying methods to stimulate and inhibit flowering so that they begin blooming around December 20th (lunar calendar). All steps must be carefully planned to ensure the flowers bloom in time for Tet (Vietnamese New Year).

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hue, residing in Ngoi Chau residential area, stated:

Typhoon No. 10, which struck at the end of September, significantly impacted the province's agricultural production. Thanks to the prompt intervention of the agricultural sector and the proactive efforts of the people, most of the agricultural areas affected by Typhoon No. 10 have now been restored.

To date, farmers in the province have planted over 5,081 hectares of various vegetables; and approximately 8,000 hectares of specialty citrus fruits, such as Luc Yen mandarin oranges, Canh oranges, Van Chan lotus oranges, Muong Khuong tangerines, Dai Minh pomelos... which are currently being harvested or will be harvested before, during, and after Tet (Lunar New Year).

Citrus fruit trees will be harvested before, during, and after the Lunar New Year.

Not only are there diverse varieties, but the majority of citrus fruit orchards are cultivated by farmers using safe production processes, organic fertilizers, and minimizing the use of pesticides, resulting in high-quality products that are popular with consumers nationwide, thus ensuring smooth sales.

In livestock farming, despite the complex disease outbreaks and unpredictable weather changes causing many difficulties, farmers are still making efforts to rebuild their herds to ensure a food supply for the Tet holiday market.

Mr. Truong Quang Dai is diligently caring for and preventing diseases in his new batch of chickens so they can be ready for sale around Tet (Lunar New Year).

The province currently has 1,176 livestock farming establishments, including 12 large-scale farms, 162 medium-scale farms, and 1,002 small-scale farms. Eight livestock and poultry farming chains have been established in the communes of Bao Thang, Xuan Quang, Tran Yen, Viet Hong, Quy Mong, and Nam Cuong ward, with a regular farming scale of 600-700 sows, 300-2,000 fattening pigs, and 50,000-150,000 poultry per batch.

Chain-based production not only allows for proactive planning and disease control but also ensures a stable supply with guaranteed quality, effectively serving the peak consumption period - Tet (Lunar New Year).

In the first 11 months, the total livestock population in the province was estimated at 1.5 million head, the total poultry population at 13.1 million head; and the output of live meat of all kinds reached 144,630 tons.

The efforts of the agricultural sector and the diligence of farmers in the province promise a highly productive harvest, ensuring that people will have a prosperous Lunar New Year.
