On October 21, in the onion fields of Ly Son special economic zone, Quang Ngai province, farmers were busy harvesting to "escape the storm".
Mr. Phan Dinh Muoi (resident of An Vinh village, Ly Son special zone) said that the 3 sao of onions that his family is cultivating have not yet reached harvest time. However, upon hearing that storm No. 12 will affect the Quang Ngai sea area, early this morning, he and his family members went to the fields to harvest the onions earlier than expected.

“Storm 12 is expected to cause strong winds, heavy rains and last for many days, so we farmers are taking advantage of the opportunity to harvest young onions. Although this harvest will result in low productivity, it is still better than leaving it until after the storm, when we will lose everything.” - Mr. Muoi said.
Ly Son Special Economic Zone currently has more than 300 hectares of onions, of which nearly 80% have been harvested. Local authorities have directed relevant departments to guide farmers to harvest quickly, while reinforcing houses and warehouses to prepare for storms.

It is known that this onion crop is the main crop of the year for Ly Son people, bringing the main source of income for thousands of households.
However, in recent years, erratic weather has put farmers at risk of crop failure. Harvesting onions quickly before the storm not only helps farmers minimize damage, but also demonstrates a proactive spirit and awareness of safe production in the context of increasingly complex natural disasters.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 4:00 a.m. on October 21, the center of storm No. 12 Fengshen was about 200 km northeast of Hoang Sa special zone. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 9-10 (75-102 km/h), gusting to level 12. The storm moved westward at a speed of about 20 km/h.
