Promoting potential and strengths

On July 1, 2025, Tan An commune officially came into operation under the 2-level local government model, based on the merger of 3 communes Tan An, Tan Thanh, Long An . This is an important milestone, opening a new development stage with many opportunities and challenges, laying the foundation for a dynamic socio-economic space in the upper Tien River area.

With an area of over ^40km2 and a population of over 42,000 people, Tan An owns a large land fund, a dense canal system, convenient transportation thanks to national highway 80B, provincial road 952 and a synchronously invested inter-commune and inter-hamlet road network. Along with that, the community is united, hardworking, and has a rich revolutionary tradition, creating a solid foundation for the locality to break through in the new period.

Tan An Commune Party Secretary La Hong Phong said: “After the merger, Tan An has more favorable conditions to promote the potential of the upstream region. The Party Committee focuses on innovating leadership methods, building a strong political system, creating synchronous changes in all fields, especially developing high-tech agriculture, digital transformation and building advanced new rural areas.”

The commune's economy mainly relies on agriculture, accounting for about 70% of production value. The commune promotes restructuring the industry, converting ineffective rice fields to growing safe vegetables, fruits, and vegetables; applying water-saving irrigation and digital transformation in production, helping to improve productivity and the value of agricultural products.

Typical examples include the model of growing high-quality rice for export, converting land to grow mango, longan, melon, grapefruit, durian and developing a craft village to process dried fish for consumption throughout the province. Up to now, Tan An has 2 OCOP products that meet 3-star standards, affirming the right direction in developing commodity agriculture.

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of the new rural construction program, traffic infrastructure, electricity, schools and stations have been invested in; people's lives have improved. The average income has reached nearly 70 million VND/person/year, the poverty rate is only 0.5%, Tan An continues to maintain the title of an advanced new rural commune, creating a solid foundation for the next stage of development.

Breakthrough to develop

Implementing the Politburo's resolutions on science, technology, digital transformation and private economic development, Tan An Commune Party Committee identified the 2025 - 2030 period as a period of acceleration, creating breakthroughs based on 3 strategic pillars: Digital transformation, science, technology, and private economic development.

The locality aims to promote the application of high technology in agriculture, forming specialized areas for growing safe vegetables and fruits in Bau Oc - Lang Dop, Liet Si islet, Tan Hau B2, linking production with the consumption chain, tracing origin and ensuring VietGAP standards. The goal by 2030 is that 70% of the cultivated area will be produced in a modern, environmentally friendly manner, helping farmers increase their income sustainably.

In the private economic sector, the commune focuses on building a transparent investment environment, streamlined administrative procedures, supporting businesses and cooperatives to expand production, process agricultural products, and develop e-commerce. The commune plans to rebuild Tan An central market into a modern trade and service hub, striving to make the private sector contribute over 60% of the total production value of the whole commune.

At the same time, the locality promotes ecological and spiritual tourism, exploits the advantages of the landscape along the Tien River, invests in Phu Son Tu relic site (Noi mountain) and Liet Si islet to become provincial-level destinations, combines river tourism, craft villages, and cuisine, contributing to shifting the economic structure towards service-oriented development.

The commune focuses on investing in socio-economic infrastructure such as: Upgrading roads, building anti-landslide residential areas, national standard medical stations, ensuring 100% of the population uses clean water, 95% of waste is collected, aiming for a green, clean, beautiful and safe living space.

Located on the Tan An - Chau Doc - Ha Tien development axis, Tan An is considered the economic gateway of the upstream region, playing a connecting role with the border and coastal areas of the Southwest. With the spirit of innovation and social consensus, Tan An is growing strongly, affirming its position as a bright spot in the socio-economic development of An Giang in the integration period.
