In the first half of 2025 alone, Hue had 4 more enterprises recognized as Science and Technology Enterprises, including Hue One Food Joint Stock Company, YesHue Production and Trading Company Limited, HUSCI Science and Technology Joint Stock Company and Hoa Sua Bird's Nest Company Limited. With this result, the total number of Science and Technology Enterprises in the area has increased to 10, nearly double compared to the entire period of 2019 - 2024 when the whole city had only 6 enterprises. The number is not large compared to the potential, but it is enough to affirm a clear shift, Science and Technology Enterprises in Hue have entered a stage of substantial development, no longer a distant concept.
The important thing is that these enterprises do not just stop at the name, but have commercialized specific products. Hue One Food, from a small-scale facility, has standardized the production process of Hue pressed cakes and brown rice cakes to reach the international market. YesHue has built a complete set of Hue beef noodle spices, both preserving the culinary soul of the Ancient Capital and gradually exporting products to foreign markets. HUSCI has developed Black Ginger - Cordyceps herbal tea and has intellectual property protection; and Hoa Sua Bird's Nest has exploited local advantages to affirm its position in the specialty segment.
Previously, science and technology enterprises often “stumbled” due to cumbersome procedures and lack of connection, but now things are different. The Department of Science and Technology of Hue City not only shortens the approval process, supports documents through online public services, but also directly accompanies enterprises and scientists in specialized working sessions. This is a shift from administrative management to the role of accompanying enterprises in development, helping to remove bottlenecks and creating a favorable environment for science and technology enterprises to form faster and more firmly.
Typically, at the end of August, the Department of Science and Technology connected with the Faculty of Agronomy, Nong Lam University and Hue One Food Joint Stock Company to transfer the "Process of producing organic foliar fertilizer from fish". This is the invention of Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Ai Hoa, which has been granted a patent by the Department of Intellectual Property. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, emphasized: "We will accompany businesses, support connections with scientists so that research results can actually be put into production". Previously, the Department of Science and Technology also worked with Nong Lam University and Hichagol Production - Trade - Service LLC to discuss the establishment of a science and technology enterprise from the topic of red artichoke in Phong Dien. These are steps showing that science and technology enterprises are no longer on paper but are present through practical cooperation.
From the business side, Mr. Ngo Van Quoc, Director of Hue One Food Joint Stock Company shared: “Recognizing a Science and Technology Enterprise not only helps us enjoy tax incentives, but also increases brand reputation in the market, creating an attraction to attract talent and R&D team. With standardized traditional products, we are confident in expanding the market and aiming for export”. This sharing shows that when the policy comes into practice, businesses not only have more confidence but also have the motivation to develop sustainably.
There are still knots to be untied.
Compared to thousands of operating enterprises, 10 science and technology enterprises is still a very small number. In reality, development still lacks diversity in key areas such as new materials, digital technology, biomedicine, and clean energy. In particular, the requirement of at least 30% of revenue from science and technology products has become a big challenge for small and medium enterprises, while many research results have not been widely applied in practice.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Duc, Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, said: “The university has many inventions and feasible research results, but the establishment of science and technology enterprises is still facing legal barriers. We hope that the Department of Science and Technology will play a leading role in removing obstacles and supporting the completion of procedures so that research results can be applied to practice and effectively commercialized.”
Mr. Le Van Chanh, Director of Hichagol Production - Trade - Service Company Limited, wishes: “We need the support of the Department of Science and Technology to complete the dossier and cooperate with the University of Agriculture and Forestry in research and technology transfer. Being recognized as a science and technology enterprise will improve competitiveness, open up opportunities to access financial support and technological innovation”.
To remove barriers, the Department of Science and Technology said it will focus on synchronizing many solutions, reforming administrative procedures, supporting small enterprises, cooperatives, and high-tech startups to form science and technology enterprises; strengthening the linkage mechanism between the State - Scientists - Enterprises to commercialize research results; at the same time, recommending the completion of policies and legal frameworks, supporting intellectual property registration, brand protection, promoting creative startups and digital transformation.
In fact, some businesses have taken advantage of technology to make breakthroughs. YesHue applies management software, puts Bun Bo Hue seasoning products on a digital platform, and expands online sales. The product both maintains the identity of Hue cuisine and has the ability to standardize to expand the international market, gradually bringing the product abroad.
With the resonance of policies, digital infrastructure and determination to cooperate, Hue has the foundation to enter a new breakthrough development phase. There are still many challenges, but with a model that connects research, production and market, the goal of becoming a center of science, technology and innovation in the Central region can completely become a reality in the near future.
