Experts and researchers at the workshop

The scientific seminar “Dang Van Hoa's Trai Ceremony - life and career” was organized by the Institute of History (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) in coordination with the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, and the Executive Board of the Dang family in Thanh Luong village (Kim Tra ward) in Hue City on October 22.

The presentations at the conference discussed the life of a famous mandarin under the Nguyen Dynasty on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of his death.

Le Trai Dang Van Hoa (1791 - 1856), also known as Dang Van Chieu, Dang Van Thiem, was the second son of Dang Quang Tuan and Mrs. Phan Thi Han, belonging to the Dang family in Ha Trung village, Vinh Ha commune, Phu Vang district (now Ha Trung village, Phu Vang commune). His ancestors had settled in Hien Si village (now Phong Thai ward), then moved to Bac Vong Dong village (now Dan Dien commune) and resided in his maternal hometown Thanh Luong village (now Kim Tra ward).

During his career, Le Trai Dang Van Hoa was considered the embodiment of a Confucian gentleman, who devoted his whole life to serving the country, the people, and his family, leaving behind many profound lessons for future generations. Nearly two centuries have passed since his death, but his image, thoughts, personality, and great contributions still live forever in the hearts of posterity and in the flow of national history.

In addition to affirming the role and historical position of Le Trai Dang Van Hoa in the construction and development of the country in the first half of the 19th century under the Nguyen Dynasty, many papers and speeches have also deeply analyzed his great contributions in the fields of politics , economics, national defense, culture, education, society, etc. In addition, proposals on the direction of preserving and promoting the value of tangible and intangible cultural heritage related to Le Trai Dang Van Hoa to serve the research, teaching and propaganda of history and culture in the locality were also raised.

According to Dr. Le Quang Chan - Deputy Director of the Institute of History, this conference is not only an inheritance of the results of the previous conferences, but more importantly, an opportunity to objectively and comprehensively recognize and evaluate the great contributions and achievements in many fields of Le Trai Dang Van Hoa. From there, propose forms of honor worthy of a typical historical - cultural figure of Vietnam in the first half of the 19th century, at the same time contributing to arousing national pride, raising awareness of the value of the cultural heritage of our ancestors in the history of building and defending the country.
