Hon Trung Island, located within Con Dao National Park, has been recognized as having the highest breeding density of seabirds in Vietnam, with 4.88 eggs per square meter. The Vietnam Record Organization (VietKings) awarded the certificate to the Con Dao National Park Management Board on November 28, 2024.

Thousands of birds soaring in the sky create a work of art by nature.

With an area of nearly 2 hectares, the landing site on top of Hon Trung Island is ideal for all kinds of seabird activity. Birds often nest all over the island and forage around it.

Unlike other popular destinations, Hon Trung Island is a special ecological reserve that is completely closed to the public. Neither locals nor tourists are permitted to access the island.

Egg Island, a "forbidden zone" not open to tourists, is nevertheless the "cradle" of life for tens of thousands of bird species, a testament to the persistent conservation efforts of Con Dao National Park.

Among the tens of thousands of individuals from five species of migratory seabirds that come here to nest, there is one particular species that shows no fear of humans: the white-bellied booby.

This is a species of seabird belonging to the genus Sula; the name "fou" comes from the French name given to it when they discovered the species.

On the island, these birds nest in scattered rock crevices without fear because there is no human presence.

From a distance, this island resembles an egg in shape, which is why the locals have called it Egg Island for generations. It has a simple, beautiful appearance with only rocks and birds, and no large trees.
