On October 25, Con Dao National Park said that during the 6-month sea turtle breeding season, rescue forces relocated thousands of nests, successfully hatched and released more than 120,000 healthy baby turtles back into the sea.
Specifically, the sea turtle breeding season lasts from April to November every year and peaks from June to October.
In Con Dao, mother turtles come to the sand to lay eggs, mainly green turtles (also known as green turtles). Up to now, nearly 1,800 turtle egg nests have been safely moved to the incubation lake by rescue forces.
Of these, about 1,500 turtle egg nests have successfully hatched.
Authorities, volunteers and tourists released about 120,000 healthy baby sea turtles into the natural environment.
The remaining 300 nests are expected to hatch gradually between now and the end of December.
According to the Con Dao National Park Management Board, in 2025, thanks to good conservation work and favorable weather, the number of sea turtles returning to the island to nest will increase compared to the previous year.
Specifically, in 2024, only 387 mother sea turtles were recorded to lay 1,161 nests with nearly 112,000 eggs on beaches in Con Dao.
By 2025, it is expected that about 600 mother sea turtles will nest and lay eggs on the sandbanks of Con Dao. The hatching success rate will be about 87%.
