Southeast Lam Dong passion fruit meets VietGAP standards for the first time

Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc's family is implementing a planting model with 0.5 hectares of Hoang Kim passion fruit (yellow skin, guava flavor), with an expected yield of 12.5 tons/year.

The model is certified by FAO Certification and Testing Joint Stock Company to be produced in accordance with the requirements of the National standards on good agricultural practices in the field of cultivation. The VietGAP certificate is valid until August 24, 2028.

This is a model implemented by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center from September 2024. After the model ends in February 2025, passion fruit trees will begin their commercial phase, so their adaptability, productivity, economic efficiency , and pests and diseases cannot be assessed.

Therefore, from May to December 2025, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center continues to implement the second year of organic-oriented intensive passion fruit cultivation model. Passion fruit grows well in the local sandy soil.

The model is carried out in an organic way, with a rate of over 90%, the fruiting rate is 100%. Passion fruit has a growing period of about 3 months. The tree bears fruit all year round and the number of fruit batches depends on the pruning and mass processing.

Passion fruit model has been harvested since March 2025 with an output of more than 10 tons/0.5 ha. With a minimum product purchase price of 20,000 VND/kg for businesses, after deducting costs, farmers earn a profit of over 140 million VND.

According to the assessment of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the model has contributed to raising people's awareness in changing the crop structure, increasing economic efficiency on the same cultivated land area. On the other hand, VietGAP certified passion fruit helps promote the connection between production and the market, bringing higher income to producers. Along with that, gradually building a brand, contributing to protecting public health.

It is known that currently in the Southeast region of Lam Dong province there are about 100 hectares of passion fruit. Of which, 0.5 hectares of passion fruit of Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc's household is the first area in the region to be granted VietGAP certification.
