The livestock and crop farm of Mr. Vo The Dung in Hung Son commune (Anh Son) is located in the middle of a mountainous area with vast green tea fields. Born and attached to agricultural production in Hung Son commune, Mr. Vo The Dung said that choosing to start a business based on the local advantages of livestock and crop farming, he not only worries about improving product quality towards clean production and organic farming.

Therefore, Mr. Vo The Dung has gradually invested resources in organic production models, such as using animal waste to make food for earthworms. From the earthworm farming model, organic fertilizer products will be produced and provided food for chickens, fish and raw materials for the production of organic foliar fertilizers.

In 2024, Mr. Vo The Dung invested more than 700 million VND to build a barn and buy earthworm breeds for breeding. After more than 1 year of utilizing waste from the pig farm to feed earthworms and compost biogas, Mr. Vo The Dung researched and produced foliar fertilizer from earthworms.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ty - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hung Son commune said that this is the first foliar fertilizer production model of farmers of Hung Son commune using hydrolysis technology combined with heating.

“With more than 90% of households living in the locality growing tea and the commune currently orienting and encouraging people to practice organic tea growing, using organic foliar fertilizer is extremely necessary and effective. Therefore, being able to produce this type of fertilizer in the commune will create many advantages for people to apply,” said Mr. Ty.

Mr. Vo The Dung said that normally, if producing standard foliar fertilizer from fish or earthworms by hydrolysis in a tank or reservoir, it would take 4-6 months to meet the requirements. However, currently, thanks to the guidance of experts from the processing machine supplier, he is applying hydrolysis production combined with heating to shorten the time while still ensuring quality.

Specifically, earthworms raised at home are ground and mixed with a certain amount of water and then put into a hydrolysis machine. This machine helps to keep the solution temperature stable at 70 degrees Celsius continuously for 4 days, which can produce the finished product of earthworm nitrogen fertilizer for plants by mixing it with water in the appropriate ratio and applying it directly to the leaves.

Currently, Mr. Vo The Dung's foliar fertilizer product from earthworms is being used by him for his family's tea hills and fields. In addition, many households growing tea, vegetables, tubers, and fruits in Hung Son commune have also ordered and used it. 1 liter of foliar fertilizer can be mixed with water to spray to supplement nutrients for about 1 hectare of crops.

The Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hung Son commune said that Mr. Dung also shared and guided the production of foliar fertilizers for households who want to produce them themselves to support the green production policy that the Commune People's Committee is promoting and mobilizing.

In Hung Son commune, in addition to Mr. Vo The Dung, there are a number of other households that have also started to compost organic foliar fertilizer from earthworms and fish, such as Mrs. Tran Thi Ly. Mrs. Ly said that her family is currently cultivating about 4.5 hectares of tea in an organic manner, so the use of biological fertilizers is extremely important.

In addition to purchasing fish protein products, Mrs. Ly's household is currently also composting foliar fertilizer from earthworms. Earthworms are purchased from local farming models such as Mr. Vo The Dung's farm. Although composting foliar fertilizer in the usual way takes longer than the hydrolysis method combined with heating, it will be the direction that Mrs. Ly's household chooses to increase productivity and efficiency for crops.

Organic foliar fertilizer made from fish and earthworms helps increase plant resistance and improve soil. The sulfur in this fertilizer reduces the harmful effects of pests such as larvae and nematode eggs and helps plants recover from chemical fertilizer poisoning. This fertilizer also provides a large amount of microorganisms to the soil, making the soil more porous and improving soil structure. It is especially safe for users and the environment. This fertilizer does not contain toxic substances or pollute water sources and when using this fertilizer, there is no need for quarantine time or waiting time to harvest. At the same time, it helps save on farming costs.
