Proactively stock up on essential goods to respond to natural disasters

Faced with increasingly unusual developments in climate and weather, the work of reserving essential goods to prevent natural disasters has been given attention and focus by units and localities in the province to ensure production, consumption and daily life of local people.

Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Huu Hung said that the reserve and supply of goods, materials and necessities is to promptly meet the consumption needs of people in case of natural disasters, especially essential goods such as food, food, drinking water, fuel... in areas affected by natural disasters, especially remote areas, areas that are often isolated to ensure social security, balance supply and demand, and stabilize the market. The Department always pays attention to urging production and business units to increase reserves to ensure quality, quantity, stabilize prices, and organize timely supply at points of sale to serve people's needs.

According to the plan for reserving and supplying goods to respond to natural disasters in 2025 in Quang Tri province, the group of essential goods reserved to respond to natural disasters is based on the level of impact and situation of natural disasters, and the people's demand for food, foodstuffs, and essential necessities.

The units participating in the goods reserve include Quang Tri Trading Corporation Joint Stock Company, Saigon - Dong Ha Trading - Service Company Limited, Tay Nam SWP Petroleum Company Limited - Central - Central Highlands Branch and Quang Tri Petroleum Company. The reserve items include food (rice), dry food, and other foodstuffs assigned to Quang Tri Trading Corporation Joint Stock Company, Saigon - Dong Ha Trading - Service Company Limited.

Regarding fuel, there are currently 126 retail stores selling gasoline and oil in the province serving districts, towns and cities in the province. When an incident occurs, it will be transferred from the gasoline and oil warehouse rented by Southwest Petroleum Company SWP - Central Highlands Branch for management, operation and exploitation and fuel tanks at gasoline and oil stores belonging to Quang Tri Petroleum Company.

Regarding the distribution system, the province currently has 83 markets, 2 shopping malls, 35 supermarkets, and 1 rice exporting enterprise, enough to meet the production and business needs of enterprises and the consumption needs of the people. Bottled drinking water, in addition to the reserves of Quang Tri Trading Corporation, Saigon - Dong Ha Trading - Service Company Limited, there are also a number of bottled water production facilities in the area with large quantities, ensuring a stable supply of goods to serve the people when there is a long-term incident.

Localities in the province have also developed plans to respond to natural disasters and search and rescue, including plans to reserve and supply goods to meet the needs of each locality. Regarding the plan to transport and distribute goods, the Department of Industry and Trade regularly monitors the market situation and developments of natural disasters; directly works with units participating in the reserve and supply of goods, ensuring the supply of goods, promptly participating in regulating and supplying goods to localities affected by natural disasters (when exceeding the local supply regulation capacity), and stabilizing the market.

Direct the provincial Market Management Department to strengthen market inspection and control, strictly handle acts of taking advantage of storms and floods to arbitrarily increase prices of goods, especially food, fuel, construction materials, etc. When storms and floods cause local isolation, localities, based on the plans and strategies developed, proactively regulate goods to isolated areas; mobilize human resources, material resources, and on-site means to participate in the distribution of goods, supplies, and essential necessities for natural disaster prevention.

In case the locality's ability to regulate and supply essential goods and necessities is exceeded, promptly notify the Department of Industry and Trade to promptly mobilize and regulate the supply of goods and stabilize the market.

Units participating in the storage of goods such as Quang Tri Trading Corporation Joint Stock Company, Saigon - Dong Ha Trading - Service Company Limited, Tay Nam SWP Petroleum Company Limited - Central - Central Highlands Branch and Quang Tri Petroleum Company are responsible for developing specific plans and solutions for human resources, vehicles and goods to promptly supply and handle market hotspots when required according to assigned areas.

The development of plans must pay special attention to remote, isolated, and flooded areas; ensure that goods are stored according to the approved plan.

With the plan to reserve and supply goods to respond to natural disasters in 2025 in Quang Tri province, units and localities will coordinate to implement related tasks. All with a proactive spirit, aiming at the goal of ensuring the supply of quantity and quality of essential goods such as food, medicine, fuel... to serve flood and storm prevention, not allowing a shortage of goods to occur, affecting production, consumption, and people's lives; building methods of reserve, transportation and distribution of goods to mobilize timely response when natural disasters occur, causing isolation of residential areas.
