During the night of October 7-8, the Cau River flood continued to rise, many areas in the center of the old Thai Nguyen City, Thai Nguyen Province continued to be flooded deeper and over a wider area.

The old round island in the center of Thai Nguyen city, which had never been flooded in previous floods, is now deeply flooded.

In particular, in the flood caused by the circulation after storm Matmo (storm No. 11), the central island of the old Thai Nguyen city - an area that had never been flooded in previous historical floods - was also flooded by the Cau River .

Previously, on the morning of October 7, the central round island of Thai Nguyen had not been flooded yet, so the authorities chose this location as a gathering point for forces and vehicles to respond to the flood. However, by the evening of the same day, the water level began to rise, causing flooding around this area.

Throughout the night of October 7, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Military Command deployed to evacuate people from dangerous areas.

Throughout the night of October 7, on many Facebook forums, people in flooded areas in Thai Nguyen shared information and locations where they were trapped, asking rescue teams to approach and help.

At deep flooded areas, authorities sent forces and vehicles on-site ready to support people.

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, at 1 a.m. this morning, October 8, the water level of the Cau River at Gia Bay Hydrological Station was 29.88 m, exceeding alarm level 3 by 2.88 m and 1.07 m higher than the historical flood peak recorded in September 2024, after storm Yagi .

Deeply flooded areas must have power cut off to ensure safety.

By early morning on October 8, the Thai Nguyen Province Hydrometeorological Station was also flooded into its offices, and was in a state of isolation due to power outage and no longer having internet connection. The road in front of the station gate was flooded with 3.5 - 4 meters of water.

Informing Thanh Nien , Mr. Le Duy Khac, a local resident who participated in the rescue team for people in flooded areas, said that on the night of October 7, many rescue teams brought inflatable boats, canoes and life jackets to Thai Nguyen to participate in the rescue work.

Many rescue teams from various provinces arrived in Thai Nguyen on the night of October 7, ready to assist people in flooded areas.

The Lao Cai rescue team lowered two canoes and successfully rescued an elderly man. However, the water level in many areas remained high and flowing rapidly, making rescue operations difficult.

According to Mr. Le Duy Khac, Thai Nguyen was severely flooded during Typhoon Yagi in 2024. However, the flood caused by Typhoon Matmo this year was wider in scope and the water level was deeper. Many central areas and the core of the old Thai Nguyen city were also flooded.

"I went to supply supplies from the flooded Gia Sang Lake in Gia Sang Ward to my brother and sister's house in Hoang Ngan Lake in Phan Dinh Phung Ward. The distance was about 1 km on foot, but there were sections where the water was chin-deep. My uncle's and brother and sister's houses in this area were not flooded during the flood after Typhoon Yagi, but now the water has flooded into the house, about 1 meter deep," said Mr. Khac.

According to Mr. Le Duy Khac, the rescue teams arrived in Thai Nguyen late in the context of many areas having power outages, so rescue work will be urgently deployed as soon as it is light.

According to information from the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province, by the evening of October 7, there were 3 dead and 3 missing people in this locality. Due to deep flooding in many communes and wards in Thai Nguyen , Thai Nguyen Electricity Company had to proactively cut off power at over 300 transformer stations to ensure safety, resulting in more than 200,000 customers temporarily losing power.
