The secret to raising super-effective hybrid pigs, breaking through the market of Thai Nguyen
In the context of the livestock industry facing a "storm" of epidemics, soaring production costs and strict requirements on meat quality, Thai Nguyen has found the "golden key" with a modern hybrid pig farming model, applying high technology, bringing outstanding economic efficiency.
The project "Application of science and technology to build a model for breeding and commercial pigs" implemented by the Center for Plant Breeding, Livestock and Aquaculture of Thai Nguyen province has created a big push. By crossbreeding two "top" sow breeds VCN15 (Landrace) and VCN16 (Yorkshire) with Duroc boars, the project has produced a herd of parent sows PS1 and PS2 with "huge" reproductive capacity, easy to raise, and well adapted to the mountainous climate.
The result of this crossbreeding is a herd of F1 commercial pigs with an "eye-catching" appearance, large and strong bones, super fast weight gain, strong resistance and "top" meat quality - high lean meat ratio, delicious meat, meeting all strict requirements of the market. The Duroc male pig breed stands out with its ability to convert food effectively, helping to reduce farming costs while still ensuring superior quality.
In Hoa Thuong town (Dong Hy district), the Thai Nguyen Province Center for Plant, Livestock and Aquatic Breeding has built a concentrated breeding model with 200 sows (100 PS1 and 100 PS2), mated with Duroc boars to create a herd of high-quality commercial pigs. This model not only provides "genuine" pig breeds for farmers in the province but also opens up a sustainable direction, helping farmers maximize profits.
Thanks to the application of advanced science and technology, the hybrid pig farming model in Thai Nguyen is becoming the "leading flag" in improving productivity, quality and competitiveness of the livestock industry. This is the solution to the difficult problem of disease, cost and market, opening up great opportunities for local farmers.
