Dong Ho paintings come to life through 3D technology at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum

On June 24, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum opened a new exhibition space for applied arts and folk arts. The highlight of this exhibition is the Dong Ho tetraptych painting of rice, corn, potatoes, and cassava, vividly depicted using 3D technology.

The 3D space realistically recreates agricultural activities – from rice grains sprouting to corn growing, chicks looking for food… – before shrinking down to the typical images in Dong Ho folk paintings. This set of paintings is considered to have a pure Vietnamese imprint, different from the Chinese influence often seen in traditional tetraptych paintings.

Along with that, the new exhibition space introduces nearly 200 artifacts including costumes, household items, musical instruments, worship paintings, folk statues... of many ethnic groups. The artifacts are arranged in a cultural storytelling direction, helping viewers understand more deeply about beliefs, festivals and folk life.

By applying modern technology combined with traditional preservation, the new exhibition of the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts contributes to reviving folk cultural values ​​and bringing heritage closer to the contemporary public.
