Taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, farmers in An Don ward, Quang Tri town, have been diligently planting and caring for flowers to meet the demand for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025. From initially growing only a few types of flowers sporadically in their home gardens, many farming households in the ward have now joined professional flower-growing associations and are earning considerable profits from growing flowers for Tet.

To prepare for the Tet flower season, farmers in An Don ward began planting seeds in October of the lunar calendar, mainly popular Tet flowers such as chrysanthemums, peonies, and rainbow flowers. Currently, some flower gardens have received inquiries from traders about purchasing Tet flowers.
Ms. Hoang Thi Mong Diep, residing in Ward 1, An Don Commune, shared: “This year, my family planted about 25,000 chrysanthemum plants, mainly crystal chrysanthemums, to serve the market during the Lunar New Year. If conditions are favorable, the flowers will be ready for harvest around the beginning of the 12th lunar month. After deducting expenses, the estimated income will be nearly 35 million VND per harvest.”
To have beautiful flowers that bloom just in time for Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), growers must meticulously attend to every step, from planting seedlings, watering, fertilizing, staking, to pruning buds. Disease prevention, loosening the soil, and providing sufficient nutrients for the flowers are also crucial. Furthermore, we must constantly monitor the weather to take measures such as providing shade and using artificial lighting to regulate germination and flowering. Thanks to years of experience in flower cultivation and adhering to the process, my family's chrysanthemum garden thrives every year, producing even, beautiful buds, and is favored by customers both within and outside the province, who place orders early.”
As for the family of Ms. Truong Thi Quynh Nhi, in Quarter 1, An Don Ward, from around the 10th lunar month each year, her family, along with many other households in the ward, are busy with the processes of preparing the soil, planting seeds, fertilizing, etc., to take care of the area where they grow various types of flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year).
Ms. Nhi shared: “Besides participating in the production of over 14,000 chrysanthemum plants of various types in the concentrated flower cultivation model, my family also grows an additional 5,000 crystal chrysanthemum plants in our home garden to supply the market for the upcoming Lunar New Year.”
This year, due to the weather, the prices of flower seeds and some agricultural supplies are higher than in previous years. However, my family still boldly invested and expanded the area for flower cultivation. On average, after deducting all expenses, the model of growing Tet flowers brings my family an income of 20-25 million VND each year.”
In September 2024, the An Don Ward Farmers' Association, in coordination with the Trieu Phong District Plant Cultivation and Protection Station and the An Don Cooperative, organized a training conference on chrysanthemum cultivation techniques for its members and farmers, including members of the flower-growing professional association.
At the same time, the Ward Farmers' Association has also integrated the activities of the professional flower-growing group to implement the plan for planting chrysanthemums in the 2024-2025 winter-spring season. This helps officials, members, and farmers exchange knowledge and experience, access policies supporting production development, improve the efficiency of the model, and ensure safety in agricultural production.
According to Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of the An Don Ward Farmers' Association: “Currently, in addition to small, scattered flower gardens, the entire ward has about 0.6 hectares of concentrated flower cultivation area with the participation of 26 farmer households who are members of the flower-growing professional association. At this time, farmers have completed planting short-term flower varieties to serve the market for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, and are proactively combining the use of biological products and microbial fertilizers to enhance plant resistance and reduce production costs.”
In particular, to expand the market for its products, the Farmers' Association of the ward continues to encourage its members and farmers to actively embrace digital transformation, using social media platforms such as Zalo, Facebook, TikTok, etc., to introduce and promote local Tet flowers, thereby boosting product sales during the upcoming Tet holiday.
It is known that in recent years, growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) has become the main source of income for many farming households in An Don ward. Besides flowers for Tet, people also grow winter vegetables such as cabbage, onions, coriander, and gourds, and raise poultry to supply the market. Thanks to actively increasing production and adapting to seasonal changes, many families have earned high incomes from these farming and livestock models, contributing to raising the average income and promoting the socio-economic development of the locality.
To further boost agricultural production, in addition to the active attention and support of the local government, in the coming time, farmers in An Don ward will continue to proactively implement measures to keep crops warm and prevent pests and diseases from harming vegetables and flowers; helping plants grow well to be ready for the Lunar New Year market in 2025.
