In particular, the role played by Meritorious Artist Khánh Hòa left a strong impression, completely different from her familiar lyrical style on the music stage as well as her long-standing "Truong Sa singer" brand. Meritorious Artist Khánh Hòa had an intimate conversation with Hanoi Moi Newspaper about her journey of embodying this character.

- The role of the Aunt in the musical "Chi Pheo's Dream" could be considered "shocking" to those who love the lyrical voice and graceful image familiar to Meritorious Artist Khanh Hoa. As a singer, how did you envision this character when you received the script?

- When I received the role of Thi Nho's Aunt, I was a little "shocked" and hesitant, unsure how to portray the character because I had never taken on such a challenging role before. But during the process of rehearsals and research, I gradually discovered the character's personality and how to portray the Aunt on stage. The Aunt character is the crucial point and climax, pushing Chi Pheo to the brink of despair.

Furthermore, with her formidable nature and deeply ingrained feudalistic beliefs, the "Aunt" is also a major source of obsession for the character Thi Nho. I focused on portraying every glance, every movement, the nuances and intensity in each song, and every gesture, however small, to fully capture the character's personality.

- Many viewers praised your "exceptional" expressions. How can a singer transform so successfully on the musical theater stage? Which segment did you find the most challenging when embodying this role?

- Throughout the performances, I received many compliments from the audience. "You sing so well, you're so slaying!" The biggest challenge in this role was having to sing opera while dancing with the dancers. Dance isn't my strong point, but this role required me to dance smoothly and express the character's emotions through choreography. Therefore, I had to practice dancing a lot and memorize the dance routines even better than the backup dancers.

The scene with Thi Nở was also a difficult one, as it required dialogue and acting to the music. Each line of dialogue was accompanied by a different melody and rhythm, constantly changing in tone. This part required a lot of practice to get it right, because the entire singing and music performance was live, so missing even one beat would affect the overall performance.

Despite the strenuous rehearsals, all the artists participating in the play felt very happy to have spent time together. "Chi Pheo's Dream" is a beautiful memory in my artistic life and everyone's. The artists of Thang Long Music and Dance Theatre have become even closer and more affectionate towards each other, like brothers and sisters in a family.

- What kind of experience did you have collaborating with a production team comprised of dynamic artists from the Northern theater scene today, such as theater director Phung Tien Minh and musician Duong Cam, especially in a field that was new to you like musical theater?

- It must be said that composer Duong Cam is a "magician" in music . Based on the script by Dinh Tien Dung, Duong Cam wrote music very skillfully, both capturing the characters' personalities and showcasing the vocal range and tone of each actor in the play, while the melody is very attractive and captivating. At first, I found the song a bit difficult, but the more I sang it, the easier it became.

With Meritorious Artist Phùng Tiến Minh as the stage director, I and the actors were able to perform the play in a more professional manner. In addition, Meritorious Artist Tiến Minh also understands music, so this combination is very suitable, not only elevating the performance but also helping the actors to more easily embody their characters and reach their full potential.

- This musical also demonstrates the Thang Long Song and Dance Theatre's exploration and innovation in finding new and more engaging forms of expression for the audience. As an artist who has been associated with the Theatre for many years, what are your thoughts on these transformations, and are the artists ready for these new challenges?

- I think this is a very positive sign for the Thang Long Music and Dance Theatre. Under the artistic direction of People's Artist Tan Minh, the theatre has come up with a very bold idea: a Broadway musical adapted from the work "Chi Pheo" by writer Nam Cao. The theatre's artists have together elevated the artistic work, breathed new life into the music, and brought musicals closer to the public in a natural, unforced way.

As an artist with over 20 years of experience at the theater, I am very proud of its transformation, having brought the musical "Chi Pheo's Dream" to tens of thousands of viewers at the Ho Guom Theater in Hanoi . In the near future, "Chi Pheo's Dream" will have further performances in Ho Chi Minh City. I hope that audiences in Ho Chi Minh City will embrace and appreciate this musical.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
